Yeev Thoj is the proud mother of Hmong American artistic gymnast Sunisa Lee.  

Yeev is married to John Lee, a veteran who got paralyzed after an accident in 2019. 

She is a healthcare worker by profession. Yeev and John have six children, including Sunisa.

Sunisa gets boosted up by the presence of her father 

Sunisa had the national championship match in 2019, and she was preparing for it. 

She was ready to get the gold there, but her father, John Lee, faced an accident just before her match. 

Her father was helping his friend to trim the tree. During this activity that he was doing, he fell off the tree and hurt his spinal cord. 

This accident made him paralyzed below his chest. He also injured his wrist, and his ribs were also broken. 

She couldn’t get her father’s condition out of her mind, nor could she back off from the championship. 

She competed in the match and brought home the silver medal.

During all her competitions, she had her father’s condition in her mind. 

Her father always watched her matches, but due to his paralyzed condition, he couldn’t watch her matches. 

After two months after the accident, Sunisa had an important game, and that was her Olympics. 

As always, she was preparing for the competition, and this time something boosted her up even more, and that was her father watching her perform. 

Her father watched her game after a long gap due to his condition. This was an overwhelming day for Sunisa.

Sunisa makes the Hmong Community proud

Sunisa is going to perform in the Olympics 2021 for the first time. Her parents are too proud of her. 

Her parents and the Hmong Community of America and all over the world are also very proud of her as she represents the whole community. 

It is the first time that someone from the Hmong community has reached this level. 

For the same reason, she is widely supported by the community people and is being watched by them. 

She did best in the qualifiers and trials, so the hopes are high for her to win.

Yeev has been married to John Lee for a long time. They are happily living their life together without any sign of divorce or separation. 

Her daughter, Sunisa, likes to keep her life private. As of 2021 Sunisa Lee is single. There is no information about her past relationship either.

Sunisa was born on 9 March 2003. She is the daughter of a health worker Yeev Thoj and a veteran, John Lee. 

She is professionally an all-rounder gymnast who performs on the national team of America. 

She belongs to a Hmong Community. Sunisa was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, United States. 

She has three brothers and two sisters. She was into gymnastics from her childhood and was gifted. 

She started doing gymnastics at the age of just 6. Also, she trained hard for it and won silver in the world championship. Her team won the world championship. 

Her hard work resulted in the victory of the National Championships. 

She has succeeded in becoming one of the richest gymnasts in the world.

Suni was losing motivation

Her daughter was congratulated for winning three medals, including the gold. Suni shared how it was such an emotional moment for her. 

She further elaborated that going into the Olympics, she didn’t think anybody expected her to win the gold medal. She says that she was just kind of just going to the Olympics. 

It’s crazy to go to the Olympics and win the gold medal, Suni added. 

Moreover, when asked about her quitting during the pandemic, she explained that it was very tough for her because she was losing motivation. 

She was not able to go into the gym and then just did not even know if the Olympics were going to happen, which she claimed was the one thing that was so difficult for her. 

Nevertheless, she says she had an amazing support system that helped her bring that motivation back. 

Suni says that she just had to keep reminding herself of the goal because she was losing sight of that. 

And she was like, even if the Olympics don’t happen, she still wants to go to college and do college gymnastics. Lasting, she explains that she just knew that she had to be back. 

Yeev’s reasons behind putting her daughter’s name Sunisa

To let you know, Sunisa is her first daughter. Yeev revealed that she kept her daughter’s name after her favorite Thai soap star. 

Also, Sunisa was given a middle name Hmong which was shortened as “N” on documents. 

Well, it’s been said that Yeev changed the middle name into the initial because, for years, Yeev had her name mispronounced as Yeev was pronounced “Yeng.” 

The lady didn’t want her daughter to face the same frustration. Also, John and Yeev were planning to bring their daughter Sunisa to see her homeland Laos. 

John says that he wants their children to see life there. Further continued that it was not as easy to live in Laos as it was to live where they are living at the moment, where they have everything. 

He further says that many people don’t understand Hmong people, pointing out that they went through a difficult rough life to get there to the United States. 

Numerous groups of Asians are lumped together here. Lastly, John says that may be due to his daughter Sunisa, and people might know Hmong people.
