Xana Martinez is the late daughter of Spanish professional football manager Luis Enrique who is the current manager of the Spain national team.
Succumbed to cancer
The sudden death of Xana was a shock to the nation. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, the most common form of bone cancer, in 2019.
She bravely battled the disease for five months but could not survive.
The devastating news of her death was shared by her father Enrique on 29 August 2019, issuing a statement that read their daughter Xana passed away that afternoon after fighting for five intense months with Osteosarcoma.
He expressed his gratitude to all of the well-wishers as well as the doctors, nurses, and medical staff for their dedication.
He further wrote that Xana will be remembered every day with the hope of meeting one day in the future and that she will be the star that guides their family.
Xana was just nine years old when she sadly passed away.
How her death impacted her sister
Xana was the younger sister to her two elder siblings, sister Sira Martinez and a brother Pacho Martinez.
Her sister Sira Martinez is a Spanish equestrian champion at the youth level. During an interview with Vanity Fair talked about how the death of her sister affected her.
She said what she has experienced with her sister has made her look at life from a different perspective.
She added that before, she used to be overwhelmed by the slightest problem, but now she has become strong where she stops to think and realizes that it is not known where our end will be, so we need to live our lives and enjoy every moment.
She now tries to cope with everything and tries to get the positive sides of it.
Her father says he cannot fall in love with anyone else except her mother
Her parents, Luis Enrique and Elena Cullell, an economist, have been in marital bliss for over two decades.
They met a year before Luis signed for Barcelona and dated for years before tying a knot on 27 December 1997 in Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona.
The lavish ceremony was held at the Cathedral de la Ribera in the presence of 200 guests.
Enrique, during an interview, said he doesn't fall in love with many people, just his wife.
According to him, his wife is the only one who supports him, and since they have been married for many years, he can't fall in love with anybody else.
Enrique was shortlisted among the potential managers to take over at Manchester United.
