William Alexander is the first husband of Ellen Burstyn, the popular American actress known for portraying complicated women in dramas.

Ellen Burstyn was interested in entertainment since her childhood days. 

She completed her early high school days with a major in fashion and was a cheerleader and drama club president.

After dropping out of her school, she started working as a dancer and model.

It was only in 1956 that she decided to become an actress. 

In the early days of her acting career, she acted in dramas such as 'The Doctors', 'The Iron Horse,' 'Goodbye, Charlie,' and many more.

She got her first breakthrough from the movie 'The Last Picture Show,' which led her to win her first Academy Award nomination. 

Similarly, her next breakthrough is 'Thee Exorcist' through which she was endowed with Oscar and Academy award.

She also won the Oscar award as best actress for 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.'

She was the first female president of the Actor's Equity Association and is the co-president of the Actors studio.

He married Ellen Burstyn in 1950. The couple enjoyed their married for seven years and then parted away.

After splitting from him, she organized her second wedding with Paul Roberts, a director in 1958.

Three years after that, she wed her new partner, Neil Nephew. 

Unfortunately, she also could not save this relationship and faced a tragic end.

The turbulent relationship resulted in divorce

The relationship of Ellen with her third husband, Neil, was delightful at first. 

She even used to describe him as charming, funny, bright, talented, and eccentric. 

But when he had Schizophrenia, their relationship started becoming terrific.

He at first left her but tried to patch up with her. But their turbulent relationship resulted in divorce in 1972. 

In her Autobiography, 'Lesson in Becoming Myself,' she has mentioned that he continuously followed her for six years and r*ped her in her house.

However, he was not found guilty as charges cannot be filed against him because the spousal relationship was not taken as a legal crime at that time.

Later, in 1978, he committed suicide and left the world.

The wife follows religious and spiritual teaching

His wife was raised by Catholic parents.

But she did not limit herself to catholic teachings and started following different religious and spiritual teachings.

She is a follower of Sufism, Jesus, and Ganesha. 

One of her favorite teachings is Guan Yin, which is related to the manifestations of the divine and the embodiment of compassion.

It was in her late thirties that she started learning spirituality from Vilayat Inayat Khan.

From him, she got her spiritual name 'Hadiya,' which means 'She who is guided' in Arabic.
