Walid Regragui

Walid Regragui is a French-born Moroccan professional football manager and a former Morocco international player who is the current manager of the Morocco national football team. 

Regragui played for several clubs, including Toulouse, AC Ajaccio, Dijon, and Racing Santander as a former player.

Morocco appointed him as their head coach three months before World Cup.

Regragui was hired by Morocco as the head coach of the national team ahead of the World Cup following the dismissal of former coach Vahid Halilhodzic in August. 

Morocco will be competing for the sixth time in World Cup Qatar 2022.

Regragui started his coaching career as an assistant to the Morocco national team in September 2012 under the head coach Rachid Taoussi. 

With the dismissal of Taoussi in October 2013, his contract was also terminated.

Regragui has already been in demand since the beginning of the summer, but he had promised he would complete his mission. 

He had said they were not going to rush. It took him eight months to accept the Wydad project. 

His achievements

After his contract with the Morocco national team terminated, Regragui was appointed to the Fath Union Sport in May 2014. 

In 2016, he led the team to the Moroccan Cup victory 2016 and the Botola pro - Morocco's top professional league. 

He left the club with mutual consent after six years with the club. Before taking over the national team, he spent a season at Wydad AC. 

In his one season, he led the team to the CAF champions league victory, the third Champions League Title in Wydad's history, and the second league title for the second year in a row. 

Regragui is the second Moroccan manager to win the African Champions League with Wydad after Hussein Ammouta. 

He wrote on his Instagram that it was an indescribable joy to be able to conclude the season with a historic double.

In an interview, he said that he had signed a year with the club, so he will do only one year with the club and would better stop there as he believes good things must end at the right time.

Is he married?

Regragui has kept his personal life out of the spotlight, so it is unknown if he is married and has a wife and kids. 

But he is a family man. After breaking his contract with Al-Duhail by mutual agreement in October 2020, Regragui didn't rush to get back into coaching and wanted to spend quality time with his family. 

Regragui, via his Facebook account, shared that his primary objective is, first of all, to take a step back after six years when he could not afford a real period of "break" with his family.

Completed CAF pro diploma

Regragui recently completed the CAF pro diploma after three and a half years of course and received a CAF pro license, the license which is strictly reserved for coaches actively coaching at a professional level. 

Regragui, in an interview, said he had time to validate his AFC pro license (Asian diploma) while he was in charge of Al-Duhail before coming to Morocco when he started the Pro CAF before he was with FUS. 

Regragui also obtained UEFA A coaching diploma after three years of training at Claire-Fontaine.

He took the training as soon as he hung up his boots and continued to play football as an amateur while following his training at Claire-Fontaine.

Regragui has an estimated net worth of $5 million which he has amassed during his managerial career.
