Viviane Dieye

Viviane Dieye is famous for being the former wife of the late French football player and manager Bruno Metsu.

Metsu left behind the indelible legacy of guiding Senegal to a 1-0 victory over the defending champions France in the opening game of the 2002 World Cup finals. 

The same year he guided the club to the last eight and also to the Africa Cup of Nations final. 

In Senegal, he is considered a coach to instill a culture of courage and relentlessness.

In 2007, he went on to achieve success as a head coach of the United Arab Emirates by guiding the team to the Gulf Cup victory.

The reason behind the death of her ex-husband 

Metsu was diagnosed with primary colon cancer in October 2012 at the age of 59,  three months after replacing Diego Maradona at AL Wasl FC. 

Since cancer had already metastasized to his lungs and liver and was already in the terminal stage at the diagnosis, he only had three months left to live.

While speaking about his battle with cancer, he said, having been told that he had three months was an enormous shock to him, his wife Viviane, and his children. 

He said he was at the hospital with Viviane, and both of them were crying as they left the hospital. 

After 18 months of battle with cancer undergoing chemotherapy treatment, he passed away in the clinic in his hometown of Coudekerque-Village in Northern France.

Metsu had become Muslim in 2006.

The funeral was Islamic that took place in October 2013 in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, in attendance of Viviane, their children, Senegalese President Macky Sall, Senegalese National Assembly President Moustapha Niasse, and several Senegalese footballers.

Paid tribute to her husband 

In an interview with Gulf News, Viviane paid tribute to her late husband. 

She said that her husband was an exemplary man, generous towards his friends and family and caring about the needs of others in the first place before his own, and could not sleep until he solved their problems. 

Everyone who knew him could attest generosity and eternal good mood of his. 

He had the personality and charisma to choose players he believed in and managed to convince them that they were of value.

She added that Metsu would always compliment her and their children, telling them they were the best and that their children would forever remember him as a wonderful, attentive, funny father. 

It’s hard to digest that he is forever gone for us, she added. She also recalled the first time she met Metsu. According to her, she first met Metsu in Italy. 

Metsu later told her about the time when he first saw her, he realized that she was the one whom he had been longing for, and it was exactly the same feeling as Viviane too. 

Later, they exchanged their wedding vows in a private wedding ceremony.

Viviane said she could proudly say that she spent a wonderful decade by his side and got to listen to the same from Metsu when he knew he had only a few days to live.

She remembered the words he used to always say as a coach. 

He used to say: A good coach must know his players and would act accordingly, and with some of them, he even behaved like a father, she further added.

Soon to be married?

After the demise of her spouse, she found love once again. 

She is currently in a relationship with a French professional football coach and a former player, Herve Renard, who is currently the head coach of the Saudi Arabia National team.

Mother of three

Viviane is the mother of her three children, Enzo, Noah, and Maeva, whom she shared with her former spouse, Metsu. 

She was also a stepmom to Remy from Metsu’s previous relationship.

Talking to Alkass Sports Channel, Abdulelah Al-Malki credited the victory to their coach, whom he called “a crazy coach,” and explained how he motivated them to the extent of telling them stuff that made them want to eat the grass. 

He said that the motivation was so deep and touching that he was left in tears and that they couldn’t wait for the match to begin. But what did he say? 

The coach inspired them by telling them that if they made history for Saudi football, it would remain ”forever.”

Renard previously said that his education had taught him that one could not get anything without work and the value of men, respect, and trust are the most important adjectives to matter. 

It does not matter where people come from or where they grow up. 

Helping others without interest and expecting anything in return is the life lesson his beloved mother always taught him.

Renard was sacked from Morocco national team despite guiding the team to the 2018 FIFA world cup. 

During his tenure as Morocco’s manager, one of Renard’s three kids, Candice, was subjected to assault. 

She was brutally attacked by the local fans after the match in the Ivory Coast. 

The incident took place when she was waiting for her father outside the team’s dressing room. 

The attack was brutal that she had to be stretchered away. 

Speaking about the incident, Renard, at the time, with teary eyes, said how people can behave like that towards his daughter.
