Vicente Moreno is a Spanish football manager and a former player who is the current manager of RCD Espanyol.
As a former player, he played as a defensive midfielder for several clubs like Valencia B, Ontinyent, Guadix, and Xerez. He spent 11 years with Xerez.
A promotion expert
After retiring from his playing career, he started his coaching career the same year with a brief stint as coaching staff to Xerez.
At the end of the year, he took over the managerial post at the club, replacing Juan Merino.
In his one season with the club, he contributed to the club from the relegation zone in division two and putting the team to 10 points above the relegation zone.
After Xerez, he spent three seasons with Gimnastic de Tarragona. He contributed the club to their promotion (to Segunda A) and later finished in third in the regular season before taking over RCD Mallorca in the third division.
He had two incredible seasons at the club with two consecutive promotions (Segunda B to Primera).
However, the club was again relegated in the 2019-20 campaign. He joined RCD Espanyol, who was also relegated, but the club won promotion after his arrival.
Vowed never to mess with Lionel Messi
Vicente realized that messing with Lionel Messi does no good to him; instead costs him.
Back in December 2019, when he was in charge of Mallorca, he had a heated argument with then Barcelona captain Messi on the touchline while competing in the La Liga.
In the rage, Messi had told him that they would score seven goals against them. Though the team could not score seven but ended up with a 5-2 victory over Mallorca, with Messi scoring the hat-trick.
The aftermath of the incident cost him hard. His players blamed him for the defeat because he was responsible for making Messi furious.
Vicente, while detailing the incident, praised Messi, calling him a genius and the best player in the world.
He saw in him, his character and his rage desiring to win. He also said not to get into fights anymore.
His controversy with Adrian Embarba
The controversy was generated between Moreno and winger Adrian Embarba after he made the double change to turn the game that ended with the club’s defeat in the LaLiga.
In the 55th minute of the match, Moreno substituted Embarba with Nico Melamed. In his rage, he denied greeting everyone, and even when Moreno put his hand forward to congratulate him, he left denying to shake hands.
After his gestures, Moreno, in a press conference, admitted to no one being happy when they change it.
The situation would have been different if they had won because when you win, it is better but comes out when you lose.
He further added praising Adrian’s effort despite having an ankle problem and not being able to train for several days.
Embarba later apologized publicly via social media, where he confessed his gestures towards the team members and the coach to be wrong.
In his posts, he wrote how he characterizes himself as a player. According to him, his effort will always help the team until the end, no matter how worse the situation is.
Further, he wrote that his characterizing of himself does not mean there will be any excuse for his behavior towards Team and coach.
He admitted his mistake to them and the fans, who are the fundamental parts of the Espanyol.
He lives a private life
Besides his professional life, he lives an extremely private life due to which the information about his married life could not be extracted as for now. He has not shared any information about his wife as well.
