Her husband’s journey to sobriety was not an easy one, as he didn’t stop doing drugs even after having a heart attack
Her husband Matty says he has been a psychopath forever and an all-or-nothing sort of guy.
He started going to concerts at an early age, got his first tattoo at 17, and got kicked out of high school for fighting.
The only school that accepted him was the culinary school at Humber. He instantly fell in love with the art.
When he started working at La Pallete, he was drinking every night, doing drugs, and partying, and things got enlarged after he opened Oddfellows because all he had to do was cook delicious food, and he could have all the fun.
Then he became wild and crazy at the loudest restaurant, Parts and Labor, because he no longer had to cook.
He could easily drink a bottle of Whisky, 24 beers, half a bottle of vodka, and do grams and grams of coke. He had a long run.
He had about 15 years of doing hard drugs and alcohol. Then, when he was 29, he had a heart attack, but luckily, he survived.
He was in hospital for five days and was at work in 10.
Matty, while appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast, said he didn’t get sober for two years even after having a heart attack.
Three months after the attack, he was back in the grip of partying, and that was the turning point where he turned into a full-blooded addict because he had the safe out.
He had the support of everyone. Everyone was worried about him, but he wasn’t.
Eventually, he started hiding from them, going to different bars and different drug dealers. Things started getting worse.
He started getting more violent. He got banned from their nightclub. He would be blackout drunk, trying to fight his friends.
It continued for two years before he sort of had an intervention.
It was three of his best friends with whom he sat down one day and listened to them for four hours.
That four hours with his best buddies was the transitional period where he could stop lying. Lying is what broke him.
Lying to everyone, especially Trish, with whom he had been with for over two decades and whom he described to be a saint.
He was like why Trish wasn’t there, and they were like, she has got nothing to say. They said it was up to him now.
He was like huh, I don’t like that.
Even now, he feels he can trigger that feeling of this is real, this is it, this is the time where he can stop and accept he has a chance and not ever have to lie, he said.
