His mother-in-law is a former Chicago government official

His mother-in-law is Valerie Jarrett, who is a former Chicago government official. 

She served as a senior advisor to President Barrack Obama during his eight years in office. 

Laura told TODAY that she was asked to cover Trump's justice department when her mother worked in the Obama White House and had to work hard to earn those people's trust.

He and his wife waited a while before they had children

Tony and Laura are the parents of two beautiful kids. They became parents for the first time in 2019, welcoming their son James

Three years later, they welcomed their second child, a daughter, June Tahay. They named their daughter June Tahay, combining their parents' names. 

Her first name, June, is from Laura's mother, Valerie Jarrett's middle name, and Tahay is the name of his mother.

During an interview with TODAY, Laura said she and Tony waited a while before they had children, which, according to her, was super valuable because they just got to have fun. 

"Kids are wonderful, but they can be extremely taxing on marriage," she said. 

She also said that they had a ball, just two of them, for a long time, which she thinks can set them up for success.

He is very supportive of his wife's career

Tony is a very supportive husband. He has been supporting his wife in her career journey from the beginning. 

On TODAY, Tony shared that their son James is very proud to see his mom on TV and how hard she works. 

Laura also said that she would like to give a shout-out to her amazing husband for his incredible support. 

"I could not do this job without my husband supporting me. He has been the rock solid from day one", she added.

Laura says she is honest with her kids about her career

After graduating from Harvard University, Laura worked as a law associate at her law firm for six years before deciding to switch her career to journalism because she realized there was no path for her that she was going to enjoy long-term. 

She was with CNN for six years. In January 2023, she was appointed as a senior legal correspondent and, seven months later, co-host of Saturday TODAY. 

Laura is enjoying her work, and that is okay with her kids, she says.

During an interview with People, Laura said she is honest with her kids about her career recalling the sweet moment with her son James when he said to her to do a great job as she was leaving for work.

James knows that his mother would love to play with him and go to the park. 

There are plenty of times they do that, and sometimes he asks why she can't, and she tries to be honest with him about where she is going and that she actually enjoys her work, and that's ok too, she said.
