Theodore Young

Theodore Young is famous as a father of a rap legend and a significant record producer, Dr. Dre. Theodore was a singer of an unsigned  R&B group called The Romelles.

The journey of a Legend

Born Andre Romelle Young, Dre grew up listening to music from an early age. He was a D.J. under the name Dr.J before joining a World Class Wrecking Cru in 1984 at 18. 

He met Eazy-E from N.W.A after he retired from the Wrecking Cru, at their peak of popularity, Ice Cube left the group because of financial reasons. 

The man whom Eazy brought to managing N.W.A’s money was not paying Dre. When Dre put the option between him and the manager, Eazy chose the manager, which became the reason to leave N.W.A.  

Later in 1995, his frontman made a shocking announcement of Eazy-E contraction with HIV AIDS.  Dre expressed his goodbye paying public tribute to his former mate. 

Dre’s next journey began with Suge Knight, The D.O.C, and Drick Griffey forming Death Row Records. During the time, he met Snoop Dogg and became great friends later. 

Their multi-platinum hip-hop album by West Coast artists such as Dr. Dre (The Chronic), Snoop Dogg (Doggystyle) became a sensational hit in the 1990s and created a history. 

In 1996, he left Death Row Records to produce his label and became the most impactful record producer of all time as a founder and C.E.O. of Aftermath Entertainment.

Married at a young age 

Theodore married Verna Young at a very young age. The pair was in a romantic relationship before they got hitched in 1964. 

She was pregnant with their first child when she was 15 years old and gave birth at 16, on February 18, 1965, two weeks after her birthday. They named their son Romelle under his group name. 

However, their marriage could not last long, and they got separated in 1968. They got officially divorced in 1972. According to Verna, Theodore was an abusive husband who used to hit her.

Talking about his son Dr. Dre, he has been in a relationship with many women. He is now married to Nicole Young. He has seven children from different women. The names of his children are Tyra Young, Hood Surgeon (from Cassandra joy Greene), La Tanya Danielle Young (from Lisa Johnson), Truice Young and Truly Young (from Nicole Young), and Marcel Young (from Michel'le) and Andre Young Jr. (from) Jenita Porter. 

His ex-wife became the stepmother of Warren G

After their divorce, his ex-wife got remarried to Curtis Crayon and ended up having four children. Out of which, she lost three of the children, and all were boys. 

One died while he was two months old, although he was ill-free. Another son died only a day old from premature delivery. 

Dr. Dre credited the last song of his album Chronic 2001 to his half-brother Tyree with whom he was very close. 

Tyree was killed by a gang member while he was 21. Her daughter, Shameka and Dr. Dre are the only children left.  

Later, again she got married to Warren Griffin III, whom she met at her workplace in Long Beach, and became the stepmother to Warren G, the American rapper and producer. 

It was Warren G who first introduced Dr. Dre to Snoop Dogg.

Dr. Dre is the only child with his first spouse

Dr. Dre, born Andre Romelle Young, is the only son of his first wife, Verna. Since Verna was very young, her parents insisted on having an abortion, but she decided to give birth. 

Her decision to keep the baby gave birth to a legend. His grandmother mostly raised Dre in his initial days. She took her son with her after her divorce.

Net Worth

The net worth of Theodore Young is not revealed. He contributed to giving birth to one of the most successful and impactful rappers of all time.  

Dre has sold hundreds of millions of albums and has launched music artists like Eminem and 50 Cent. 

Apart from that, Dre and music producer Jimmy Lovine co-created the consumer electronics company Beats By Dre, which was later sold to Apple for $3 billion.
