She delivered the speech after death penalties to Bali Nine drug runners Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan. 

Her husband was serving a jail sentence of nine years and had completed three years on drugs charges. 

Her husband also went to rehab at Salvation Army rehab after his jail sentence. 

Their story panned out beautifully as after saying his story to his wife Tanya, the couple got married to live as husband and wife. 

When Michael Coutts-Trotter was narrating his story to his future wife, he was very honest and Tanya was also never afraid that Michael would revert his mind to start using again. Michael was very lucky to have not overdosed. 

He has said, 

“I didn't have the AIDS virus, despite sharing syringes with a lot of gay men in Darlinghurst in the early 1980s.”

After his journey, he remade his life and luckily did not have any criminal record. He also managed to land a job in the office of Brian Howe. 

His new career had begun already. He also served as treasurer in the Carr Labor government in NSW. 

It was difficult times for Tanya, assuring her children that their father was in prison for things he did in the past and the children did understand the situation.
