Takuma Asano

Takuma Asano is a Japanese professional footballer who plays for the Bundesliga club VfL Bochum and the Japan national team.

His career so far 

Asano attended Yokkaichi Chuo Technical High school before he joined Sanfrecce Hiroshima in January 2013 at the age of 18. 

He was soon to impress everyone with his skills, winning the J1 league in his debut season and the Japanese Super Cup in 2014. 

Later that year, he contributed to the team to lift the title for the second time and was named the J1 League Rookie of the Year. 

In July 2016, he was signed by Arsenal. Asano, at the time, said he wasn’t sure whether to accept Arsenal's offer. 

According to him, he had always wanted to play abroad and had a few offers before, but he was never sure if he should go or not. 

Once he was called up for the national team, where there were a lot of players playing abroad, and playing with them made him feel he also wanted to play and challenge in a foreign league then.

Arsenal gave him the offer, and he was not sure whether to go or not, but he felt good about the decision after he talked to his family and friends, he added. 

Arsene Wenger, then Arsenal manager, described him as a young talented striker and very much one for the future. 

While at Arsenal, he was loaned out to VfB Stuttgart and Hannover 96 before he joined Serbian club Partizan and became the first Japanese player in the club's history. 

He has been playing for VfL Bochum since June 2021.

He credits his family for his humble nature

Asano was born and raised in Komono, Mie, alongside his five brothers and one sister. 

His father worked as a truck driver, while his mother worked as a housewife. 

Asano credits his family for his humble nature, for which he is thankful to his parents because everyone in his family had an opportunity to play football. 

He says having many brothers and sisters made him humble. His younger brother Yuya is also a professional footballer. 

He is currently playing for J1 league side Sanfreece Hiroshima as an attacking midfielder.

Asano is nicknamed a Jaguar, but where did that come from? Asano, during an interview, explained how he got his nickname. 

According to him, he is a very fast player, and one of the fans from his last club Sanfrecce Hiroshima gave him the nickname “The Jaguar.” 

Then other supporters found out and put banners out for him. For his celebration, he adjusted to his nickname. 

He started to do Jaguar celebrations after he scored, and as he started scoring more goals, people in Japan started to know about it too. 

Now fans expect him to do it every time he scores.
