Sylvinho

Sylvinho, full name Sylvio Mendes Campos Junior, is a professional football manager and former football player. 

He is currently the head coach of the Albania national team. 

He started his playing career with the Corinthians youth team in 1990 and hung his boot while playing for Manchester City.

Sylvinho has been happily married to his wife, Lu Mendes. 

They exchanged wedding vows on Lu's birthday in January, which was revealed by their daughter while she made a birthday post for her mother. 

On January 25, 2024, their daughter wished her mother, Lu Mendes, on her birthday by posting several pictures of her parents and, at the end of the post, she wished her parents a happy wedding anniversary. 

She described Lu as the greatest example of a woman and how her father is lucky to have her as his wife. 

Their daughter also flaunts their love on her social media. 

She frequently provides fans with glimpses of family vacations and adorable moments at festivals on her social media. 

Children

From their marital bliss, they are blessed with two children, a son and a daughter. 

They became parents to their first child, a daughter, in 2002 and named her Taty Mendes. Their daughter was born in Spain. 

Then, they welcomed their son, whom they named Tiago Mendes.

His career

During his career as a player, he played for the Corinthians youth team from 1990 to 1994, Corinthians from 1994 to 1999, Arsenal from 1999 to 2001, Celta from 2001 to 2004, Barcelona from 2004 to 2009, and Manchester City from 2009 to 2010. 

He also played for the Brazil national team after getting called up for a match against Russia in 1997 under the coach Mario Zagallo. 

His last appearance with the national team as a player was on March 28, 2001, in a World Cup qualifier match against Ecuador. 

He announced his retirement on July 7, 2011.

He started his managerial career in 2011 after being hired as the assistant manager of Cruzeiro on September 27, 2011. 

He also worked as an assistant manager for Inter Milan. He became the assistant manager of the Brazil national team on July 20, 2016, and assisted Tite. 

He then became the manager of Lyon on May 19, 2019, but was sacked on October 7, 2019, as he won only two games with the club. 

He returned to Corinthians on May 23, 2021, as their manager. He was sacked from the position in 2022. 

He led Albania to Euro 2024

Sylvinho has been the head coach of the Albania national team since January 2023. 

He and the Albanian Football Association reached an agreement to be the head coach of the national team on January 2, 2023, and seven days later, he was officially the head coach by signing an 18-month contract. 

His main goal was to qualify for Euro 2024. He debuted with the Albania national team on March 27, 2023, but lost a match against Poland. 

He then guided the national team to the finals and led to a 1-1 draw against Moldova. 

The Albania national team was able to secure four wins and three draws after that and won the group ahead of the Czech Republic on head-to-head. 

Albania then qualified to play for UEFA Euro 2024. This is the second time Albania has qualified for Euro. 

To celebrate the achievement, Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, gave the Golden Decoration of the Eagle, an honorary decoration of the Republic of Albania, to Sylvinho on November 30, 2023. 

He was also granted the Albanian citizenship on December 18, 2023. 

The president of Albania's soccer federation, Armand Duke, said that Sylvinho would be offered an extension on the contract as Albania would try to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
