Steve led Scotland to the first major tournament in 23 year

In May 2019, he was appointed as the manager of the Scotland national team. He led the team to its first major tournament beating Serbia in UEFA 2020 qualifying.

It is the first major tournament for the nation since 1998. Their first game will be against the Czech Republic

According to Steve, qualifying for the first time in 23 years has made him feel less pressure, and he is also trying to keep his players calm and relaxed, asking them to enjoy the moment.

He also added that his team would give their best in every game and try to take the next step to the knockout stages to be the first for the men’s national team.

Reason behind him getting back to work

Steve was living a blissful life after having given his more than three decades of a career as a player and a coach. He spends his time with his grandkids, playing golf and fishing.

But there was a strong woman who still saw the spark in him and felt he was too young to retire. She is none other than his wife.

According to Steve, his spouse recognized him getting bored and frustrated, particularly when watching matches and swearing at the television.

She persuaded him to get back to work. Soon after that, he returned to management, having been appointed at Kilmarnock.

Siblings

Steve is a younger brother to the former semi-professional football player, Paul Clarke, who is seven years older than him.

While growing up, Steve practiced football with his father Eddie, uncle Jim, and brother Paul and Michael

Both his father and uncle were at Celtic as a kid and played with Morton and Cambridge City at the time.

Eddie, whom he considers his no.1 influence, was a top amateur player in Ayrshire but never reached a height due to a bad injury in an accident when he was young.

Paul played as a center-back for Kilmarnock. He played against his younger brother Steve during the 1982-83 seasons.

At the time, Steve was playing for St Mirren. Steve’s younger brother Michael is no more in this world. He also has one sister.
