Stefano Pioli

Stefano Pioli is an Italian-born professional manager and a former player currently the manager of Serie A club AC Milan. 

As a former player, he played for series of clubs, including Juventus, with whom he had an incredible three seasons, winning series of League titles, The European Cup, The European Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup.

Married to his high-school sweetheart 

Stefano married his high-school sweetheart, Barbara. They have been together since 16 and are inseparable since then.  

According to Stefano, when they went out for the first time on a date, he was already eager to get married and have children and asked her to think about it, but she wanted to take it day by day.

Stefano is up to decision-making regularly as a coach, but outside his professional career, his wife Barbara is the one who makes most of the decisions.  

Barbara is fond of traveling to different places, especially monuments, churches, museums, streets, and corners. 

When there is a break or holiday, she decides where they are going, which he never concerns himself with.

His other passion besides football

Besides football, he is passionate about cycling, which he loves doing as well as watching. It is a source of relaxation for him. 

He loves going on cycling with his mates until it’s not competitive because, at this age, he no longer has the energy to push himself too much and destroy himself. When he needs to unwind, then he goes cycling alone.

Father of two 

Stefano is the father of two grown-up kids, son Gianmarco and daughter Carlotta Pioli. Carlotta is the firstborn. 

His only son Gianmarco is following in his footsteps. He is currently working with him for Milan as a match analyst. 

Stefano and Barbara have already become grandparents of their two-year-old grandson, born to his daughter Carlotta. 

Carlotta is on her way to deliver her second baby boy with her husband. Stefano describes the feelings of being a grandparent to be overwhelming. 

After becoming grandparents, they preferred to stay in Versilia, where their daughter resides, so that they get to see their grandson.

He was born to his father Pasquino Pioli and mother Luisa Pioli. He described his best memory and his best feeling with his father to be the sense of security he got from him. 

All his life, his father did two jobs and made sure that they would never run out of anything. In the morning, he worked as a mail carrier, and in the afternoon worked as a farmer.  

His father also instilled in him the love for football and the value of being a responsible person from an early age.  

But sadly, his father passed away in 2019. Talking about his mother, he said that his mother is most fierce about football and to be tougher with judgments. 

He also added his mother to be very emotional and reactive, who always speaks her mind no matter what. To date, she still scolds him if he plays badly.

How did he deal with criticisms that were fired upon him at the time of his arrival in Milan?

Upon his arrival in Milan, he had to go through harsh criticism with the trending hashtag on Twitter #Pioliout. 

He took the criticism as an additional incentive to push himself and excel further because he was convinced of his skills though he had not bagged any trophy to that date. 

He also added saying that he likes people expressing their opinion by looking into his eyes instead of indirect means. 

Though he supported Inter in the past, he committed to fighting for Milan to give the best result with the best intention and desire. 

After he arrived in Milan, he led the team to its first Championship in seven seasons.
