Sorba Thomas

Sorba Thomas is a professional football player who plays for Huddersfield Town and the Wales national team. He plays as a winger. 

He is a youth product of West Ham United. Thomas was born in England, but he qualifies for Wales from his mother's side, who was born in Newport.

To be playing professional football has been a dream come true for Thomas

Thomas was playing for National League side Boreham Wood before he moved to Huddersfield Town in January 2021. 

But his football journey from playing in the non-league to the championship has not been that smooth, and he worked hard, which has paid off today. 

While at Boreham Wood, he was told he was not good enough, which hit him hard because while growing up, he was only ever good at football. 

He was never told before, so he threw his boots and shin pads in the bin, he said during an interview with Sky Sports. 

But it was his parents and some of his friends who boosted his confidence to start again. He re-joined the club and worked from the bottom. 

While at the club, he realized how important it is to work for everything, especially in non-league. He had to coach to keep himself going financially, and it helped him so much to grow.

When he moved out of his parent’s house, he had to grow up very quickly and needed a bit of time to get used to being in the professional environment going from three days a week to nearly seven days a week which has been a massive change for him. 

But every day has been a dream come true to be playing professional football. 

His impressive performance led him to win the EFL Championship award of the month for August 2021. 

He was called up to Rob Page’s senior Wales Squad for the first time in September 2021 for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers, and in November 2022, he was listed in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

His mother was left in the joy of tears when Wales called him up

Thomas always dreamt of playing for Wales, and his dream came true. 

He used to pinch himself to assure himself that it was not a dream, he said during an interview. 

According to him, Rob Page went to see him play, and on the day of a Huddersfield game, he was told he had been selected. 

When he got the news, he was in the hotel room and called his mom. He had his mom crying on the phone. 

It showed him how much it meant to him, but for his mom, it was massive, he said.

He played as a striker before he became a winger

Thomas grew up watching Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho, which made him fall in love with the sport even more. 

He aspired to become like them. He was not immediately a forward, but he was always a striker growing up until he joined Boreham Wood. 

They started him as a winger, and he excelled.
