Sofia Toache is an Instagram model and social media influencer mostly famous as the girlfriend of Ajax and the Mexico national team's defensive midfielder, Edson Alvarez.

Alvarez, in an interview, claimed that Hollywood actress Salma Hayek tried convincing him to join the French side Rennais in the summer of 2021. 

Hayek, also the wife of Rennais owner Francois- Henry Pinault, tried her best to get Alvarez in their favour but couldn’t since Alvarez was clear with his decision that he wanted to stay with Ajax. 

Alvarez said it was difficult to reject Rennes, but in the end, he had no doubts as he felt he still had to prove a lot at Ajax, with whom he wanted to play in the Champions League against big teams. 

When he got the call from the actress, he was surprised and flattered by the interest from the star, but his choice was Ajax, and he explained to her, he said.

Alvarez left out by Mexico in the match against Argentina in World Cup

Although Alvarez was the key player in the qualifying process for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he was still left out of the match against Argentina. 

After the draw with Poland in the opening game, the Mexico national team manager Gerardo Martino changed his mind. 

Due to this, Alvarez’s opportunity was limited as he was sent to the bench.

During the crucial match against Argentina, Gerardo decided to use midfielder Erick Gutierrez. 

Still, he didn’t consider using Alvarez in the second half, which led the Mexican fans to speculate that he wanted Argentina to win because not letting Alvarez play and taking Lozano and Vega out of the game easily helped Argentina to a 2-0 victory over Mexico.
