Simon Grosjean

Simon Grosjean is the son of French-Swiss racing driver Romain Grosjean. 

He races under the French flag for the Haas F1 team.

Grosjean meets a terrible accident, almost encountering death

The start of the F1 race is always chaotic, particularly in the back half of the grid, and so it was proved on Sunday when after turn three, the Haas VF-20 driven by Romain went off track to the right.

First-lap collisions, unlike what happened next, are not that rare in the sport. 

During the race at Bahrain Grand Prix, Romain Grosjean's car snapped in half after reaching the guardrail at around 137mph (220km/h) and then burst into flames, something that hasn't happened for over 30 years. 

The impact was measured to be 53G causing the car to disassemble. 

The famous racer miraculously walked away from the crash after being pulled out by the medical assistants. 

The fire caused by the crash was also quickly extinguished.

It was very unusual for a modern F1 car to split in half like that. 

The engine in these cars bolts to the carbon fiber monocoque chassis. 

In crashes like these, the two bolts with rupture, and the two halves will spill. 

Grosjean will be replaced by test and backup driver Pietro Fittipaldi, grandson of Brazil's double world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, at the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain next weekend to ensure that he recovers properly.

He is going to be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.

The FIA is to initiate an inquiry, and it will be thorough and include any party involved with the race owner, Michael Masi. 

The FIA security department directs the investigation with every incident, but more so with every major incident, he said.

Meanwhile, people on social media are showing lots of good wishes to Grosjean.

The racer even addressed it to Twitter, thanking his fans for their lovely wishes and that he can't wait to get better and back on the track. 

He has revealed that he thought about his kids during the crash and that motivated him to escape. He also said, he must live for his kids, a very emotional statement from a brave driver.

Relationship, wife, and children

Grosjean married his longtime partner Marion Jolles who is a French journalist and television presenter. 

She is 38 years old.

Marion has been presenting Automoto on TF1 every Sunday with Denis Brogniart since 2005.

The couple got married on June 27, 2012, in France. 

Siblings

Simon has two siblings. His brother, Sacha Grosjean is seven years old (born in 2013).

In July 2017, Marion announced that the couple would be expecting a baby girl. 

Jolles gave birth to her daughter Camille on December 31, 2017.

Pictures of the couple's children have not been revealed because of privacy and safety issues.

Late racing career and Raced in the Formula one World Champions

Romain started getting interested in racing after his Karting lessons when he was just a teenager. 

His first single-seater experience was at Formula Renault 1600 in 2003, where he became Swiss champion with ten wins in 10 races.

Grosjean raced in the Formula One World Championship, where he took the 8th position.

Sports car racing and Various endorsement deals 

After leaving Formula One, Romain became interested in sports car racing. 

In 2010, he secured a drive in the FIA GT1 World Championship.
