Shoshanna Jordan Hastings is the daughter of Shel Silverstein, who was an American Poet, cartoonist, songwriter and playwright.
Shel was born into an immigrant Jewish family in Chicago. He was born to his parents, Nathan Silverstein and Helen Silverstein. Both his father and mother were of European descent.

On 30th June 1970, she was born to her parents Susan Taylor Hastings and Shel. Her mother, Susan, passed away when she was five years old.
Shoshanna Jordan also passed away when she was 11. She passed away because of a cerebral aneurysm on 24th April 1982.

He was not good at his studies. It was very hard for him to adjust at anyplace until he got into Roosevelt University.
He had talents since he was young, and his English professor was the one to recognize them first.
His English professor helped him a lot to sharpen his skills. Before he graduated from that University, he served in the army in Korean War.
While serving at the war for the military newspaper, Pacific Stars and Stripes, he started drawing cartoons.
His cartoon was submitted to various journals, which helped him become a cartoonist. Later he started writing songs and singing.
His books for children are sold over more than 20 million copies into thirty different languages.
Works that brought Shel to fame:
He published a book named "A Giving Tree" in 1964 which was one of his great works that were ranked third on the list of Goodreads list of Best Children's Books.
This book is about a relationship between a tree and a boy. He published "Where the Sidewalk Ends" in 1974, a collection of poems that deals with childhood concerns which was included in the Teachers top hundred books for children list.
Shel also won the Grammy awards for best recording audio version of Where the Sidewalk Ends for children.
It came out in the cassette at first and later as an LP phonograph record. He was also nominated for an Oscar award for his song called "I'm checkin' out" from the movie called Postcards from the Edge.
Her father's death
Shel died of a heart attack on 9th May or 10th May 1999, in his home in Key West, Florida.
His body was found by his housekeeper on 10th May, but it is said that he might have died the days before his housekeeper found his body.

Shel Saperstein was married to Susan Taylor Hastings, and together they gave birth to their daughter Shoshanna Jordan Hastings.
His wife passed away when his daughter was 5 years old. Later he started dating a driver of a trackless tourist train named Sarah Spencer, with whom he had a son named Matthew, but they never married.
