Sheree Edwards is a mother of three-time The New York Times best-selling author, motivational speaker, blogger, and the founder of Hollis Company, Rachel Hollis.
Her marital relationship with her husband was super bad
Edwards married her husband Farrell Neeley, a Pentecostal minister with whom she welcomed their four kids, including Rachel.
But her relationship with her husband was super bad, which affected Rachel’s childhood.
According to Rachel, she had a bad childhood growing up, and that was because of her parents’ abysmal marriage.
It looked like a perfect household from the outside, but there were always punching holes in the walls and screaming.
Depression and anxiety ran deep in the family from an early age in the household.
Rachel’s elder brother, who was schizophrenic, took his own life when Rachel was just 15. The family, which was already a mess, shattered into pieces.
There was no coming back from the loss of him.
Because of all of that, from an early age, Rachel thought of getting out of there anyhow, and as soon as she finished high school, she moved to L.A., where she worked three jobs to make ends meet.
Having said that, she also said that she loves her parents so much because they did the best they could do with what they have, but if it weren’t for how much they struggled to parent them, she wouldn’t be the woman she is today, she said.
How did her daughter’s career end up being an author?
Rachel owned an event planning firm for many years. But then she started to feel burnout, where she felt like she had had enough.
She was searching for something else, so she started blogging at the end of 2007.
It was like the very beginning baby days of blogging as a way to market her event planning firm.
According to her, she initially had no idea what it was to blog. She would take pictures and shoot after writing randomly about anything and everything.
Only a few people would read, but she kept on doing it.
Over the course of several years, the blog started to get popular, and she really started to enjoy it and eventually dreamt about writing her own book.
It was a long journey to build up an audience. She wrote her very first book in 2014.
When she wrote a book and sent it to the publishers, everyone turned it down.
At one point, she felt her dream had died, but then she decided to self-publish a book. She took a picture to cover herself.
She at the time didn’t know she should use an editor. There were grammatical errors and spelling mistakes as well.
She had no idea what she was doing, but still, she put it in the Amazon. In the first weekend, she sold 50 copies.
Because of the good word of mouth, it just kept selling well. As it was going to gain traction, a publisher called her, and she ended up signing with a publisher.
Her daughter recently lost her ex-husband
Her daughter recently lost her ex-husband Dave Hollis, a Disney executive turned author with whom she was married from 2004 to 2020.
Their sixteen years of marriage ended in divorce in 2020, with Rachel announcing their divorce via her Instagram, writing that they have chosen to end their journey as a married couple after working out endlessly over the last three years to make their core friendship that they had started out 18 years back work.
The part of us that works so well has become a band-aid for the parts of us that don’t. The ex-couple had been working together, co-parenting their four kids.
The most difficult thing in her life was explaining to her kids that she was divorcing her husband, as she wrote in her book.
Admitting to that, while appearing on the Tamron Hall Show, she said that she believed so much in a healthy choice that was for their entire family.
She also said they divorced in May but spent their holidays, Christmas, and Thanksgiving together as a family, finding a way to reset and learn what they could do for the best of the family.
Upon the death of her ex-husband, Rachel, in her Instagram, shared they were devastated, that she had no words, and that her heart was too broken to find them.
