Sam Dastyari is a former Australian Senator, and he has contributed a lot to the parliament of Australia. He represented New South Wales in the Senate. He is a member of the Australian Labor Party. He was also the General Secretary of New South Wales branch of the Labor Party.

He has also admitted that he has battled suicidal thoughts in the past. In an interview with Stellar, he has revealed that his addiction and suicidal thoughts made him quit politics, and these were tough times for him. 

He has admitted that he turned to prescription medication and also took the help of binge drinking to get himself out of depression even after he resigns from the parliament. 

Finally, he took an anti-depressant prescription to get out of depression. After using the medication, he ended in bars as well as a casino. 

He has admitted that he has gone 15 days without food and has also said that he survived only on the water to break out of the addiction. 

He has said that, 

“I don't want pity, I don't want forgiveness, I don't want acceptance, but I would love to stop hating myself.”

Sam Dastyari was married to his wife Helen Barron, and the couple had tied the knot in 2010. 

He has two daughters. Sadly the couple has recently divorced in January 2019.
