Ryan Eggold

Ryan Eggold is an American film and television actor best known for his role as Ryan Matthews on the CW teen drama series 90210, Tom Keen on NBC FBI thriller Blacklist, and Dr. Max Goodwin on the hit NBC medical drama series New Amsterdam.

When did he fall into acting?

Eggold was born in Lakewood, California, to his parents Karen who is half Austrian-Jewish and half-Croatian, and James Federick Eggold, who is of German descent. 

In an interview with Chicago Tribune, he said he always had an interest in acting sort of from afar. 

He was probably 13 years old when he told his mom that he wanted to do it though he didn’t have the reason why at the time. 

Then one summer, he, along with his friend, went to the summer camp where he acted in some of the plays and fell in love with it. 

When he started dipping his toes in the acting field and getting enrolled in a small theatre where he grew up, he had a teacher who encouraged creativity, freedom, and lack of judgment. 

According to him, he was one of those kids who loved attention, was talkative, and got into trouble, and one of his teachers sort of rewarded him for it and pushed him into a world where it made sense so he could make something out of it. 

He started his acting career in the early 2000s with initial recurring roles in television series like The Young and the Restless, Entourage, and Brothers and Sisters before landing a breakthrough role in 90210.

Comes from a medical family

Besides Eggold, all of his family members are from medical backgrounds. His parents are doctors, and his sister Nicole is a nurse. 

His father, Federick, has over four decades of experience working as a Podiatric medicine expert, while his mother, Karen, has nearly four decades of experience working as a dermatologist. 

Eggold is super close to his sister Nicole and calls her his hero. 

During an interview back in 2020 with Access’ Zuri Hall to talk about New Amsterdam’s third season, he also talked about his sister Nicole who at the time was working tirelessly when the world was battling with COVID-19 on a frontline to keep people safe. 

He said his sister inspires him, along with all the healthcare workers who have been working so tirelessly to combat things which makes him sort of re-energize to go to the shoot to tell their story and reflect on the courage and the dedication and the trials and tribulations, the ups and down the health workers face on daily basis.

Having played the role of a father has trained him to be a father in real life

Though Eggold is currently single and has no plan to start a family any time soon but playing a role of a doting father has definitely trained him to be a father to his children in real life. 

He played the role of the father in The Blacklist and New Amsterdam. 

While appearing at the TODAY parenting event back in 2019, he confessed to loving to have kids as having a baby on TV is great training for having a kid. 

He told he gets little doses of playing with kids on set, and he enjoys feeding and comforting them and is very much looking forward to parenting whenever it comes before he clarified that he has no plans to start a family right at this moment.

Eggold is yet to get married. And also he is currently single, but he has been linked to a few actresses in the past. 

He was previously linked to Twilight actress Ashley Greene and “TODAY” show host Jill Martin. 

He was most recently seen with actress Bella Throne at The Surf Lodge in Montauk, New York, sparking dating rumors. 

During an interview with The Daily Telegraph in 2014, he said he is a 90-year-old man in a 30-year-old body and is not good at romance as he stumbles over the pick-up line badly. 

He also said he is not equipped for social media and that he has been a 90-year-old man since he was 12 years old.
