Richard Williams III is known as the paternal step-brother of Serena Williams. 

Serena is a professional tennis player with 23 Grand Slam titles in the Open Era. 

She is the former world number 1 in women’s tennis.

Richard’s Family and Siblings

Richard is the son of Richard Williams and his wife, Betty Johnson. 

He has four siblings. They are two brothers and two sisters named Ronner, Reluss, Sabrina, and Reneeka Williams.

He and his elder sister Sabrina have strongly criticized the film for cruelly omitting their dad’s first family, not showing his first thirty years, and not casting any of the family members from his marriage to his first wife (their mother, Betty). 

Sabrina said the film to be no less than a comedy questioning How can one make a movie telling half the story?  

According to her, the film suddenly starts with her dad and his new wife Oracene and their children, which seems nothing happened before.  

She also feels the title to be over the top and outrageous, saying her dad considers himself to be the king of the world, while others who have been around him and known him closely do not think he is the king as he has lived through two of his tennis star daughters forsaking all of his other children. 

She added to try not to laugh out loud while watching the film since she knows the full story. 

His sister also stated that as a black American, Will Smith, who is probably getting an Academy Award for playing their dad, should have wanted to tell the full story, while Sabrina stated the actor should be ashamed of himself and feels pity toward her dad more than being angry. 

Her late mom Betty whom she described as having had a great sense of humor, would have laughed out loud if she was alive, calling him "That rat b******.”

She added that she stopped giving a damn to her then-husband a long time before she died. 

She said of her dad failing to be a good dad and that he chose tennis for them so that it could make him a millionaire. 

She confessed to even burying her dad in her head and will not be attending his funeral.

His nephew committed suicide.

His nephew Alphonse Williams, son of Sabrina Williams, died by committing suicide at the age of just 21 on the 3rd of February, 2022. 

He was suffering from a multitude of mental and physical health issues that included bipolar disorder and Peyronie’s disease.  

His sister Sabrina admitted to knowing his struggles with mental health issues for a very long time and that he had attempted to end his life previously.

Richard Williams on Will Smith’s Oscar slap

When Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock in the 2022 Oscar, the slap was heard all around the world.

Back in 2016, Richard Williams was incapacitated after suffering two strokes, leaving him to inability to speak. 

Since then, LeSane, who is also his interpreter, has been taking care of him. He is currently residing in Atlanta. 

Like his half-brothers, Richard III and Ronner, LeSane also has criminal records. 

According to the criminal record, he has been charged with civil, domestic relations, and criminal proceedings 61 times. 

LeSane, the CEO of ChaVam, a Florida-based music company, helped his dad negotiate the deal for his dad’s 2014 memoir "Black and White: The Way I See It" with the publishing house. 

In his memoir, Williams acknowledged his son for bringing them all together and for tirelessly keeping the project alive when others would have flattered. He deserves that credit, he added. 

When Richard Williams was amid the messy divorce battle with his then-wife Lakeisha Graham, with whom he shared a son Dylan Starr in 2017, LeSane was put in charge of his dad’s estate.
