Renato Sanches is a Portuguese-born professional footballer who plays for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and the Portugal national team. 

Sanches plays as a midfielder. He was born Renato Junior Luz Sanches ComM.

Sanches was born to his parents, Renato Sanches, and his mother, Maria da Luz das Dores. His parents split up just a few months after his birth. 

His father then flew to France to work, due to which his birth was not registered until his return in 2002.

He was subjected to several harsh age comments and controversy

Sanches was often targeted and alleged of faking his birth certificate and that he is many years older, making the judgment between birth and registration gap. 

Among the allegers were Sporting then president Bruno de Carvalho who indirectly targeted him for faking his age back in 2016. 

Carvalho, via his social media posts, wrote they would put this whole matter to bed once at all if they released the birth certificate of the hospital Amadora-Sintra where Sanches was born. 

Sanches later demanded an apology publicly for defaming him.

Similarly, former Auxerre coach Guy Roux via a Romanian news outlet questioning his age, said Sanches registered date is incorrect since his birth was declared years after his birth.

However, this matter was put to bed after the hospital where Sanches was born published the document proving that he was born on 18 August at 15:25 local time.

Sanches reflects on his football journey, his highs and lows

Sanches grew up as a fan of Benfica and dreamt of playing for Benfica and playing in the stadium in the presence of fans, his family, and people who supported him since childhood. 

Within less than a year with Benfica's B-team in the second division in 2014, Sanches was promoted to the club's main team. 

While at Benfica, he won the European championship and the Portuguese league and was awarded UEFA young player of the tournament.

The following year, he joined Bayern Munich. 

Joining Bayer Munich, according to him, was as if he had left the academy and was joining the first team again and had to start all over again. 

While in Munich, things didn't go as expected. He said he felt like he was unprepared for things, although he trained well. 

He endured several injuries and felt lonely. It was the worst moment of his professional career, he said.

When he was loaned out to Swansea City, he intended to get more minutes so that he could grab the opportunity to play in the World Cup.

But physically, he was not fine. He was distracted because he would think of not getting his leg torn again. 

In 2017, when he was playing for Swansea City against Chelsea, he mistook his red-shirted teammates for a sponsor logo and passed the ball to them.

After he left Munich for Lille, he rebuilt his career. He said he had a mindset that he should be able to demonstrate he is a good player. 

While at Lille, he helped the club win 2020-21 Ligue 1 and his outstanding performance earned him Lille's player of the month award for two consecutive months. 

After he departed from Lille, he joined Paris Saint-Germain on the 4th of August, 2022.
