Quinten Timber

Quinten Timber is a Dutch-born professional footballer who is a midfielder for Eredivisie club Feyenoord and the Netherlands national team.

Early life

Quinten was born in Utrecht, Netherlands, and was raised alongside his four siblings, three older brothers, Shamier, Chris, and Dylan, and a twin brother Jurrien Timber. 

They have both Aruban and Curacaoan roots. 

His father is from Curacao while his mother is from Aruba. 

Quinten's father's last name is Maduro but he and his siblings took the last name from his mother's side due to the situations in the past. 

His mother Marilyn Timber used to wash dishes in restaurants to feed the family and provide better training facilities for him and his siblings.

His twin brother is a defender at Arsenal 

His twin brother Jurrien is a defender at Premier League club Arsenal and the Netherlands national team. 

Both brothers started their football journey at the local club DVSV club before they had even started. 

The twin got scouted by Feyenoord and joined their academy when they were six. 

The twin brothers and their older brother, Dylan, who is a year older than them, were scouted to go to Feyenoord. 

All three brothers played at Feyenoord's academy before the twin brothers got a call from the club's rival Ajax. By that time, Dylan had already left Feyenoord. 

Both brothers left Feyenoord to join Ajax at the age of 12. They were together until Quinten moved to Utrecht in 2021. 

They together represented the Netherlands at U15, U16, U17, U19, and U21. 

Jurrien in an interview said they had been together every single day, did the same things at school, and even had the same friends until Quinten moved to Utrecht.

In an interview with The New York Times, the brothers said they have lived together their whole lives and have not felt the need to ban soccer talk when they get home until they do not disclose sensitive information to each other. 

"Giving details would be dangerous", Jurrien said.

Feyenoord wanted him and tried hard to get him

After having played at Utrecht for a season, Quinten joined his boyhood club Feyenoord in 2022. 

Both Quinten and his brother were considered great prospects during their youth career from 2008-2014. 

However, the boys switched to the club's rival Ajax's youth academy. 

When asked the reason behind leaving Feyenoord, Quinten said it was a choice he and his brother made at the time based on feeling. 

He also said that he doesn't want to talk about it too much because it was in the past and he is happy to be at his boyhood club again.

Quinten began his senior career in 2018 with the reserve team of Ajax. At Ajax, he had a foot injury and was out for a while. 

He did not break through at Ajax. Then he had to make a choice and that was FC Utrecht. 

He immediately ended up in the first team and conquered a starting spot.

When Feyenoord signed him in July 2022, he was the most expensive purchase in Feyenoord's history. 

When asked if that put a lot of pressure on him, his answer was no. 

He said players are paid a lot more these days and that Feyenoord wanted him and tried hard for that. 

That's only positive for him, they saw it in him and it's up to him to show how good he is which is nothing to do with pressure, he added.
