Philippe Clement

Philippe Clement is the Belgian-born professional head coach who is the current head coach of Club Brugge. 

He is a retired football player who played as a defender and represented his country in the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. 

Besides that, he played for several clubs like Beerschot, Genk, Coventry City, and Club Brugge. 

He started his coaching career with his former club, Brugge working in different positions on the coaching staff before landing the managerial post in Waasland-Beveren followed by a two-year stint at Genk. He took over Brugge in 2019.

His first marriage was a failure

Philippe’s first marriage was a failure. It came to an end after several years of their marriage. 

Their first son Miguel who is now 27, was 18 at the time of their divorce. Miguel is not his biological son. 

He gave his name when Miguel was about two years old. Miguel confessed to not knowing his biological father and was not even concerned about knowing. 

For him, Clement is his father, who has been influential in shaping him. Clement is the father of the other three sons, Keanu (20), Niels (23), Robbe (20), whom he shares with his then-wife.  

Clement and his then-spouse had joint custody of their sons. They are still connected through their sons and sit together to talk if they have to make important decisions. 

They act normal whenever they meet. His then-wife resides in Haasdonk.

Got hitched to his long term partner at the age of 47

Philippe finally got married to his fiancé Isabelle Bauwmans in September 2021 at the age of 47.  

The couple has been together for more than a decade. Isabelle has been accompanying her partner in matches and special events since the beginning of their relationship. 

Sharing the post of their wedding via Instagram on the 4th of September, he wrote, ”Best day of my life.” 

His children are the supporter of the clubs he trains

Miguel confessed to not having one favorite club and being the supporter of the clubs which their father trains. 

As of now, they are the supporter of Club Brugge. His eldest son Miguel has chosen a different career field. 

Though he studied commercial sciences, he later enrolled in an independent bank in Beveren. 

At the same time, his other sons Keanu and Robbe play football in provincial, at Haasdonk and Bosdam Beveren, respectively. 

Niels also played football but later became a fitness instructor. 

His new wife was not into football initially 

Isabelle, who has now become a football lover, was not really into football initially. The incident of her mistake proved that. 

When Isabelle attended the Jan Breydel Stadium for the first time, she was wearing a green pullover. 

She was unaware of the fact that green was the color of city rival Cercle Brugge. 

Clement asked her not to repeat the same mistake onwards. To this date, she knows all the players and their position but sometimes needs an explanation from Clement, especially about the European coefficient. 

Once Antwerp was still playing for European, she asked her son Robbe to support the team for their coefficient. Her son was completely surprised hearing her saying that.

Clement has been crowned with Belgian Pro League titles consecutively for three years, with Genk in the 2018-19 season and with Club Brugge in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 season.
