Paulette once suffered a stroke which was triggered by two blood clots, and was rushed to the hospital where she almost died but somehow survived after being in the hospital for four months straight and two years of bed rest. 

She gradually recovered but left her partially paralyzed. Though she had suffered so much, she still maintained to keep a smile on her face and never gave up.

Paul admitted that his mother is really brave, and she is his biggest inspiration, and he always wants her to have everything she wants.
