Pascal Gastien

Pascal Gastien is a French-born professional football manager who is the current manager of Ligue 1 side Clermont. He is a retired player. 

He retired from his playing career after having spent most of his career with the top two divisions of the French Football League system, including Marseille, where he enjoyed a successful season, having won champions of France and Coupe de France in the 1988-89 season.

He is married to his wife

Pascal married his wife in the 1980s. From their union, the couple gave birth to their son Johan Gastien on the 25th of January, 1988.

Urges his player to take risks

Gastien developed an interest in tactics at a very young age, because of which he has come a long way, having stayed with Niort for fifteen years before taking over their first team in 2009 and later Clermont in 2017. 

Terence Makengo, the striker who played under Gastien while at Berry, explained his playing philosophy to be simple, play, and have fun. 

He further added that Gastien never yelled at his players, even the defenders, on losing the dangerous ball but instead urged his players to take risks. 

His former teammate Jimmy Algerino praised him for having a good vision of the game and grinning it without backing down but moving forward. 

According to Gastein, the only chance to get out is by playing, and since the team was designed like that, it would be suicidal to change. 

Because of his tactics, he led the Clermont to achieve history. Under his charge, Clermont finished in the league and won the promotion to Ligue 1 for the first time in their history.

Gastien has dedicated his life to football, where he and football are inseparable terms. 

He sleeps at 3 am and wakes up at 7 am and heads towards the training center. When it comes to talking about football, then he can go on for hours.

He has been crowned twice the title of the best coach of Ligue 2 in 2019 and 2021, which is the result of his hard work and dedication.

Does not grant his son any privileges as a coach and treats everyone equally 

Gastien instilled the football qualities in his son Johan who is currently playing as a midfielder for Ligue 1 club Clermont. 

The father and son duo has worked together before while at Niort. He is the first trainer to his son Johan. 

Despite being a father to Johan, he did not let him have any privilege and treated him equally like other players. 

When Johan joined his father in Clermont, he was scared, initially thinking how his teammates would welcome him knowing him as the son of the coach, but they soon got to know that the coach was not going to grant his son any privileges, which made things work well. 

Even though he treats every player equally, Johan confessed to facing frustrating situations when the opponents give him that awkward look which somewhat annoys him sometimes, but then he avoids thinking it to be a technique to upset him and put him in the trap. 

He takes it as a motivation that motivates him to work hard to prove himself that he can do it without the support of his father. 

He played well when his father was not his trainer while he was at Dijon in Ligue 1.
