Pape Gueye is a professional footballer who is a defensive midfielder for Ligue 1 club Marseille and the Senegal national team

Born in France, he was eligible to play for Senegal because of his Senegalese parents.

Despite his young age, he knew what he wanted in life

Gueye was born and raised in the neighborhood of Montreuil, a place famous for both good and bad things.

His father was a bit strict about him and his siblings, so they would not hang out with bad people in the neighborhood.

He was very protective of them and would ask them to make sure that if they were going out, then it was either for school or to play football.

He was brought up like that.

According to Gueye, he was really focused and didn’t need people to tell him things because he knew what he wanted in life, and it was only football.

He was seven years old when he joined Blanc-Mesnil SF. He got training up to U-13. He joined Le Havre at 12. He also did some tests in Saint-Etienne.

He said at the time, PSG wanted him but preferred to go to Le Havre because it was a very good training center and there were great players, and above that, there were sports studies.

He is very close to his parents

Gueye said he has been very close to his parents.

It was complicated for him to think of having to leave home at quite an early age, but at the same time, he also knew that sacrifice had to be made to turn his dream into a reality.

Gueye recalled in an interview crying the whole night thinking about his parents when he left home for pre-training when he was 12 years old.

During the day, he would go to school, and during the night, he was all the time thinking about his parents.

He even said to the director that he wanted to go home. He had a conversation with his dad on the phone.

His father said they are behind him and will always be there for him to push him and asked him not to worry as the days will pass and he will succeed.

But he continued crying, saying he couldn’t until he consoled himself, thinking everything would be fine. He started training at 15 with Le Havre.

He had a mission in his head to come back to the city, but when he comes back, he will as a successful person and prove that he left for nothing.

Gueye on joining Marseille “You have to be crazy to refuse the offer of this club”

His childhood dream of playing for Marseille finally came true after he signed Marseille in July 2020

During an interview, he stated that being younger, he dreamt of playing for OM, which is known in France and around the world.

”When OM calls you, you have to be crazy to refuse. We know the supporters, the Velodrome, there are a lot of things to say about the club, he added.

FIFA imposed a one-year transfer ban on Marseille because of the ongoing dispute over the 2020 signings.

In April, it was revealed that Gueye signed a pre-contact with Watford when his contract with Le Havre expired in July

But he changed his mind and agreed to a deal with Marseille.
