Nate Bjorkgren

Nate Bjorkgren is an American basketball coach. He was born to his parents Keith and Pat, in the small town of Iowa. 

While growing up, Nate played all of the four sports that included football, baseball, basketball, and track. His first love was not basketball but baseball.

By the time he reached high school, he had started falling for basketball. Nate was serving as a head coach for Indiana Pacers before getting fired after a year of his appointment. 

Before Pacers, he was an assistant coach for Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors.

Was it a too early decision to fire Nate?

Nate has more than two decades of coaching experience. At the early age of 23, he took over a lot of responsibilities under his shoulder, serving as a head high school coach, an assistant baseball coach, junior high football coach, teaching history, physical education, driving a school bus for games. 

After his high school coaching career, he started his professional coaching career from D-league Iowa Energy, working under Nick Nurse. 

He progressed to being the head coach for Dakota Wizards ( now Santa Cruz Warriors), Iowa Energy, and Bakersfield Jam before landing in NBA as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns and later Toronto Raptors. 

He was hired Indiana Pacer's head coach on the 20th of October, 2020, but the Pacers had a disastrous 2020-21 season missing the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

According to the Pacer's president Kevin Pritchard, the players were expecting the growth under Nate since they had just three playoff wins in the previous season after having lost in the first playoff round in the four straight seasons. 

Still, it proved to be below expectation when they even did not reach the playoff. He also confessed the reason behind his dismissal to be not only his on-court failure but also his failure to connect with the players that resulted in a clash. 

His failure to prove both on and off-court was the reason behind his early dismissal, and they did not want to take further more risks as they were already at risk.

Happily married his wife

Nate is a happily married man. He is married to his beautiful wife, Heidi Bjorkgren, with whom he shares two children, a son Jarrett and a daughter Kaylee. 

The beautiful family of four is living a blissful life out of the spotlight.

A basketball hoop still exists at his parent's home

Nate is blessed with supportive parents who have been with him throughout his journey.

Nate was 10 when his father put the basketball hoop made up of plywood, placing a rim on it at the garage of their home. 

He would try to copy the same techniques of play after watching the games on TV. It's been more than three decades, and his parents have not removed the basketball hoop. The basketball hoop still exists at his parent's home in Storm Lake.

Nate believes in preparing himself every single day. According to him, to get prepared, a lot of experience in the basketball game is needed. 

He keeps himself prepared, whether if it is practices or games so that he can answer every question of the players. He believes they should be able to give the reason for every answer.
