Mutt Lange

Mutt Lange, born Robert John "Mutt" Lange, is one of the most acclaimed music producers in rock music as well as a songwriter. 

He is also famous as the ex-husband of Canadian-born Grammy-winning singer Shania Twain. Twain was not only his wife but his songwriting partner as well.

His love story with Shania Twain

Mutt contacted Shania after she released her self-titled debut album. 

Twain, in her Netflix documentary "Not Just a Girl," said their first conversation on the phone lasted for three hours. 

During that three hours, he played some of his music on the phone, and she also sang over the phone.

She recalled Mutt telling her that they should collaborate. They really bonded well through music and eventually started spending hours on the phone. 

They eventually met after six months. They co-wrote the album, and while working together, they started a personal relationship.

"We met, we fell in love, we're engaged, wrote an entire album all in six months. And married in that six months as well", she said.

They got married on the 28th of December, 1993. 

Twain's 1997 album "Come On Over," which he produced, became the all-time best-selling album by a female artist.

However, their life took a turn after they decided to end their relationships. They got divorced after 14 years of marriage.

He cheated on his ex-wife with her best friend 

Mutt was having an affair with his ex-wife Shania Twain's then-best friend Marie-Anne while he was still married to her. 

Marie-Anne was Twain's confidant, someone who understood what her concerns were in her marriage. 

It was Marie-Anne's ex-husband, Swiss Nestle executive Frederic Thiebaud who found the truth about their affair. 

He said he discovered the truth in a concrete way and even asked them to tell the truth to Twain, too, but they didn't want to, so he had to. 

Twain said she was in disbelief at first and asked Marie-Annie, "What's going on?" 

But Marie-Anne, with tears in her eyes, got very defensive and asked how she could think of that and that she would ever lie to her. 

When Twain discovered the truth, she was devastated and wanted to end her life. She wanted to go to bed and never get up, she told Oprah Winfrey. 

However, she suppressed her feeling although she was dying from the inside. 

Then she started losing her voice from Lyme disease, and she didn't associate the two together.

During that phase, the only person that stood by her, comforting her, was Marie-Anne's husband Frederic because he was also going through the same betrayal. 

They helped each other cope with the whole thing, and during that period, they eventually fell for each other and ended up marrying in January 2011 in Ricon, Puerto Rico.

He was married twice before Twain

Prior to marrying Twain, he was married twice. He was married to Stevie Vann, a Zambian-born British singer. 

They first met while attending the same school in Northern Rhodesia. Then they reconnected a few years later while at Belfast High School in South Africa. 

They later married and emigrated to the United Kingdom. They got divorced in the 1970s. In 1979, he married for the second time to actress Olga Anthony.

It is reported that after his third divorce from Twain, he continued his relationship with Marie-Anne and moved to Switzerland.

How many children does he have?

Mutt does not share any children with his first and second ex-wives. But he is the father of one whom he shares with his third ex-wife Shania Twain. 

They share a son named Eja. They welcomed him in 2001.
