Mirjam Poterbin is the beautiful mother of Luka Doncic, a Slovenian professional basketball player who has been playing for the Dallas Mavericks after he was drafted as the third overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft.

Mirjam was born in Slovenia to her parents, Milena and Anton Poterbin. She is a beautician. She previously owned a beauty salon in Slovenia.

An unsuccessful marriage

Mirjam was married to Sasa Doncic, who is also from Slovenia. The exact date of their marriage is unknown, but their marriage could not succeed.

Her ex-husband Sasa Doncic, father of Luka, is a professional basketball coach and a former player.

After having won twice the Slovenian Premier League in 2007 and 2008, thrice Slovenian Cups in 2004, 2007, and 2008 along with Slovenian Super Cup in 2007, he retired from his professional playing career.

After retiring from his playing career, he started his coaching career in 2010.

Sasa’s letter to his son Luka

Sasa had a complicated relationship with his son in the past years.

He poured his heart into an emotional letter about being an imperfect dad and also explained his absence in the 2018 NBA draft.

In his letter, he stated he was never perfect, and instead of being on his side in the draft, he was in Ljubljana.

He asked his son to keep the reason behind his absence in between them only. He further added how proud he was as a father after hearing his name on the TV.

Reminiscing the time when he left Slovenia at 13, he shared being hurt and excited at the same time.

He wanted his son to be with them, but at the same time, he did not want his son to miss the opportunity.

He also shared two great moments of his son as a baby, one was when he received an MVP award going up against elder players in the Barcelona tournament, and the second was his first possession when he received the ball in the corner and shot behind the 3 point arc during his first time with men’s team.

Her son’s happiness is what matters to her the most

According to Mirjam, she was never thinking about how successful her son was going to be.

She was just thinking about his happiness and making sure he enjoyed his life. She has sacrificed a lot of things in her life to see her son happy.

When Luka was 13, she made a tough decision to send him to play pro ball in Real Madrid just because her son wanted to try and was happy being there.

For three years, she lived apart from her son, where she spent most of the time crying, remembering him.

Luka is the only son

Luka is the only son of Mirjam. She delivered him on 28th February 1999 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

She became a single parent to raise her son. She is currently single.

A life-long supporter

Mirjam raised Luka, supporting his dream from the early phase of his life.

When Luka was in Spain, she flew to Spain from Slovenia every weekend to support her son.

After three years in Spain, when Luka asked her to join him in Spain, she did not think of a second and sacrificed her job and salon to be with her son.

After his NBA draft, she moved to the U.S.A. She is spotted in the stands supporting her son.

Luka’s love life

Luka found the love of his life Anamaria Goltes whom he met while he was 12 at the seaside in Croatia.

They have been in a relationship for more than five years and are residing together in Dallas with their two dogs. Anamaria works as a lifestyle and fitness instructor.
