With the celebration of their seventh anniversary, the couple also announced they are expecting their first child together. 

Rodrigo, via his Instagram, penned a beautiful birthday message wishing Melany a very happy birthday and the seventh anniversary. 

He also thanked her for always being supportive and being there for him. 

More than anything else, thank you for the most wonderful gift that is on the way and will change our lives to have the family we always wanted, he wrote.

Her partner’s background and his football journey so far

Rodrigo was born in a small city in Nueva Helvecia in Uruguay. 

He comes from a family of footballers where his father, grandfather, and brother played football at the professional level, and his cousin is a coach. 

Rodrigo had a trial with Uruguayan side Penarol but was not selected, after which, under the recommendation of his father flew to Buenos Aires to try out at Boca Juniors. 

He was 13 when he moved out of his home and stayed at his grandparent’s home in the neighborhood of Liniers to join Boca’s youth academy. 

At 15, he made his senior debut and earned a promotion to the first-team squad at 17. 

According to Rodrigo, moving to a big city from a small town was not that easy at the time. Today he describes his period at Boca to be something special.

It was a long period of his career, and he never wanted to miss out on, and after so many years with the club, he thinks Boca fans in the stadiums are something different and special, he expressed.

He moved to Juventus two years after his Boca debut, where he lifted three Serie A titles and two Copa Italia titles and caught the eye of several top clubs. 

He joined the Spurs on the 31st of January, 2022.

Rodrigo was part of the Uruguay U20 squad that won the 2017 South American U-20 Championship and made his senior debut for the national team in 2017 and represented the national team at the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and Copa America in 2019 and 2021.

Rodrigo believes in dreams and never giving up. He says everything begins with a dream. 

To come from a small space with a nearly 10,000 population was tough, which one would hardly imagine and to be in the position he is in today is all about hard work to maintain that level, he added.
