Mehdi Taremi

Mehdi Taremi is an Iranian professional footballer who plays for Porto and the Iran national team. He plays as a striker. 

Taremi has previously played for several clubs like Shahin Bushehr, Iranjavan, Persepolis, Al-Gharafa, and Rio Ave.

Comes from a football background

Football is in Taremi’s blood. His father, Alireza Taremi, was a football player. He used to play for Pas Bushehr, Iranjavan, and Bushehr XI. 

His father foresaw his potential and used to say that he would end up at big clubs like Esteghlal and Persepolis and used to tell him not to think of himself as inferior. 

Taremi started playing football at the age of five. He used to train with his father. 

But initially, it was unimaginable for him until he realized at the age of 10 or 12 when he was playing at Bargh Bushehr that he was good at it. 

According to him, when he was playing against the older kids and still caught the eye, he realized deep down he was talented at football. 

Taremi's older brother Mohammad is also a football player.

He was conscripted as a draftee

After turning 21, he was conscripted as a draftee, where he was on guard duty and had to water grass. 

While at the camp, they had all the sporting facilities, and he was the one responsible for maintaining them. 

He even wanted to play for a military club, but that wasn’t meant to be. 

He gave a trial for Fajr Sepasi for a week under Mr. Yavari and trained for a week but they didn’t call him back. 

It was a difficult period for him back then because not being able to play hurt him.

Money is the last thing that he cares about in football

According to Taremi, money is the last thing he cares about in football, and he has never prioritized money during his career. 

Whatever team he has played for so far, he hasn’t had high wages, whether in Iran or Europe, or Qatar. 

He says status is more important than money because money comes eventually.

The kiss in his goal celebration is for his mom

Taremi revealed that the kiss in his goal celebration is dedicated to his mom. 

His mom, who is a retired teacher, said she never thought her son would come such a long way. 

She said she used to tell him that he was chasing the wind and there is nothing in this journey.

His mom also said she doesn’t like football personally and does not watch it that much. 

She says she doesn’t even watch her son’s game because of the associated stress it carries.

Because of the stress, she goes to another room and remotely follows the game via voice. 

He is a very generous person

Taremi’s mom described Taremi as a very generous person. 

Recalling an incident, she said he bought a new bike for one of his friends so that his father would not find it after it got stolen despite having a decent wage at the time. 

She said his friend’s father didn’t even realize what actually happened.

Relationship Status

Taremi was in a relationship with Iranian actress Sahar Ghoreishi in 2018. 

There was also a rumor that Ghoreishi was soon going to be his wife, but their relationship lasted only for months. 

In March 2020, he announced that he has moved on with a new relationship and preparing to get married.

The Porto star, who is famous for his bicycle kick finish in the 2020-21 champions league against Chelsea has amassed a net worth of around $10 million from his stunning football career. 

In an interview, Taremis said he earned 2.3 million in one and a half years with Al-Gharafa.
