Matheus Nunes

Matheus Nunes is a Brazilian-born professional footballer who plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Portugal national team as a midfielder. 

Although he was born in Brazil, he opted to play for Portugal after Portugal national team manager Fernando Santos convinced him to play for Portugal.

He considers his mom a warrior

Nunes was born in Rio de Janeiro to his Parents, a Portuguese father and a Brazilian mother. 

He was raised in Brazil until he was 12, after which he moved to Ericeira, Lisbon District, with his mother and step-father, looking for a better opportunity.

Nunes's childhood was tough since his father was not present in his life, and he was raised by a single mom. 

His mother, Catia, whom he considers a warrior raised him, working day and night. There was a time when they didn't have food on the table.

Nunes says his mom is a warrior who instilled in him a love for football and with whom he got his first touches. 

After they moved to Portugal, Nunes worked at Bakery for six months. 

He would stand on his feet for five to six hours a day and would go to training in the evening. He said to train afterward was not easy. 

He used to wake up at five a.m. to go to work by bike since he didn't have a driver's license.

What convinced him to join Wolves?

Starting his career with Ericeirense, Nunes was soon to attract top clubs around Europe. 

He moved to Estoril after having played two seasons at Ericeirense and then joined Sporting CP in 2019, with whom he won a double of the Primeira Liga and Taca da Liga. 

Through his Instagram post, Nunes expressed his gratitude to Sporting CP for everything the club has provided him in his four years. 

He also wrote that he came out more of a man and more of a player with the club.

Nunes was first linked to Liverpool, Hotspur, and Manchester United, but he opted to play for the Wolves. 

When asked about what convinced him to join Wolves, he said the club itself convinced him, and also he spoke to some of his teammates with whom he plays for the national team. 

He added that the coach wanted him and he wanted to play in the premier league and thought it was the right next step for him.

He also said he had wanted to join Wolves for a long time. Wolves, according to him, is the best league in the world and is the best step for him.
