Marina Reijnders

Marina Reijnders is the stunning wife of AC Milan and the Netherlands national team midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.

How did she meet her future husband?

Marina met her future husband Tiijani via a social media account back in 2017. Tiijani and Marina in a joint interview recalled the time when they first met. 

According to Tijjani, he first saw Marina passing by and started following her. Both of them were 19 at the time. 

Marina lived in Hengelo and Tijjani in Zwolle. 

She followed him back on Instagram thinking she had seen him somewhere but she also knew she was not going to make the first move.

Tijjani's first thought upon seeing her was "What a beautiful woman. I want to hook up with her", he said. 

Their first date was in Zwolle. They were so busy talking that they didn't realize that the tea they had ordered had already gotten cold, Marina recalled. 

She also said that she found it a bit exciting to watch his matches but at the same time, she was afraid that people would see her as such a stereotypical football woman.

Happily married since 2022

Tijjani popped the question when he was playing on loan for RKC Waalwijk in 2020. They had a day off and they went to Rotterdam. 

He took her to the terrace and asked her to turn around saying he was going to take a picture of her. When she turned back around, he was already on one knee.

Marina wanted to complete her retail studies in Hengelo at first. She continued her studies at Amsterdam. 

She wanted to become a midwife, but since it took at least four years and they didn't know how long they were staying in the Netherlands she became a maternity nurse and birth assistant.

They moved in together in Corona time and got married on the 6th of June, 2022. 

Mother of one 

Marina is the mother of one. She has a son named Xavien who she shares with her husband Tiijani. 

They welcomed him on the 28th of February, 2024 in Milan. According to the couple, they didn't have to think long about their son's name. 

Both of them liked Xavi and they decided to stick with Tijjani's sister Syane's name on it.

Marina described her husband as an involved father. 

While she breastfeeds, Tiijani helps in changing diapers and all if Xavien wakes up in the middle of the night, she said. 

They also have one more member in the family and that is their dog, Messi.

Tijjani on arriving in Milan and appearing with the national team

After five years at AZ, Tijjani joined Serie A Club AC Milan in July 2023. 

A month earlier, he had received his first official call-up to the national team for the 2023 UEFA Nations League Finals. 

On arriving at Milan, Tijjani said he was first hesitant when they first told him that they were interested in him. Then he received a call from Moncada and Pioli. 

He found it so interesting and immediately had a good feeling that he thought he should go to Milan straight. 

There were other top clubs including Barcelona but Milan came first also in terms of the role, he added.

On his appearances with the Netherlands national team, he expressed that he improved a lot in Italy, becoming a more complete midfielder but he doesn't think one can improve drastically in 2-3 months. 

"Maybe they waited a bit too long, but now I've finally arrived where I wanted to be, I waited, it's true but everything has a meaning and I'm very proud to play for the Netherlands", he said.
