Maria Rosario is famous as the mother of Barcelona midfielder Pedri who was born Pedro Gonzalez Lopez.

How did she meet her husband?

Maria married her husband Fernando a long time back. She met Fernanda while working as a kitchen assistant, which Fernando owned with his father. 

When Fernando opened the restaurant with his father, it was a room with no paint and no plaster on the walls, and they didn’t have a fridge. 

They started the business in Bajamar, Tenerife, and the Canary Islands. 

Maria and Fernando fell in love while working at the restaurant, got married, and eventually had two boys, Fernando and Pedro Gonzalez Lopez. 

Both of their sons were born in Bajamar. 

Since Fernando had the house in Tegueste, which is kilometers from Bajamar, they moved to Tegueste after eight years. 

Later, Fernando’s father got ill, and he decided to set up the restaurant. 

Maria and her husband currently own a restaurant in Tenerife. 

Every time their son plays a match, the whole family gathers in the restaurant and watches the game together on T.V. 

They always send pictures or videos of them watching and celebrating the goal to their footballer son.

Pedro Gonzalez says his parents and his brother are the ones who give him the most advice from where he gets motivated to push himself forward and also to keep his feet on the ground. 

He lives with his brother in Barcelona. Maria and Fernando, whenever they visit their sons in Barcelona, play Board games.

Maria is the most emotional one in the family

Pedri, in an interview, said that his mom is the most emotional one in the family, admitting that she cried when she found out he was included in Luis Enrique’s list for Spain. 

He also said he is delighted because it proves how proud she is of him.

She initially found football hard

Maria initially found football hard. When her son was an Under-16s A player, the scout of Las Palmas noticed the young talent and went to the restaurant to talk about it. 

They wanted him on Christmas, but Maria was firm. She said her son was not going anywhere in the middle of the school year. 

Her husband Fernanda, in an interview, said Maria and he was two different people in how they saw it. 

For him, it was fantastic because he wanted to be a footballer too, like his kid who puts on football boots but Maria didn’t see it like it. She found it hard, he said. 

According to Maria, she found it hard because for her, he was a little one, always there around her, playing around with full of smiles.

At the end of the season, they talked again. They said they still wanted Pedri and believed in him. And finally, she was also convinced.

Was a Barca fan before he was born

Pedri’s grandfather founded the Barca fan club before he was born. He had all the Barca stuff, the chair, the cushion, everything. 

It was something he got from the family. Fernando used to take his sons to see the games, and they loved it. Pedri started playing football at the age of three. 

He recalled in an interview his father always told him that he was a better footballer than he ever was, and though he didn’t see his father play, he knows the love for the sport runs in their genes. 

His idol growing up

Pedri grew up watching former Barcelona player Andres Iniesta at the fan club founded by his grandfather in his hometown Tenerife. 

In an interview with The Associated Press, he said he always loved Iniesta and his way of playing soccer because of how he was on and off the field and has been his reference, and has always tried modeling himself on him. 

He admitted to watching all the videos of Iniesta on YouTube without missing any of his games.
