How did her love story begin?

The love story began in 1963 when her future husband, Vicente, who worked as a singer in Guadalajara, returned to his hometown.

Maria was his close friend's sister, but when he saw her leaving church for the first time, he was smitten by her beauty and even gave her a laurel flower in the Town Square.

Maria, in an interview, recalled Vicente asking him to be his girlfriend in front of his parents. When he said so, she asked him to give her time. 

She said she would give an answer on Sunday, and when that day finally arrived, she said yes. 

They started dating, but to pursue his singing career, he flew constantly, due to which they could not spend time together. 

But they kept in touch by letter. They used to write one another letters. 

Maria said Vicente wrote to her daily and told her every detail of what was happening with him.

Because they could not spend time together, Vicente eventually asked Maria to find a new boyfriend. 

She did find a new boyfriend, but little did they know they were destined to be together. Vicente returned to Jalisco following his mother's death in 1963. 

He knew that he should not leave the woman who had stolen his heart no matter what, so he went to Maria and told her he would give her 10 minutes to break up with her boyfriend because they were getting married on the 27th of December, 1963.

She is a mother, grandmom, and a great grandmom

Maria is a mother to her four children, Vicente Jr., Gerardo, Alejandro, and Alejandra. 

Alejandra is their adopted daughter whom they adopted from her sister Gloria, who at the time couldn't care for her. 

Alejandra thought Maria and Vicente were her biological parents until her biological mother took her back for a while. 

Those period of time was extremely difficult for Vicente, and as a result, he started losing weight and feeling depressed, so Gloria ended up giving Alejandra back.

Two of her sons, Alejandro and Vicente Jr., have followed in their father's footsteps. Both of them are singers. 

Her other son Gerardo is an entrepreneur, while her daughter Alejandra is an actress. 

Not only a mother, Maria is a grandmom to her 11 grandchildren and great grand mom to her five great-grandchildren.

The reason her husband denied liver transplantation

Her husband, during an interview back in 2019, talked about a doctor suggesting a liver transplant because of his cancerous tumor. 

He revealed denying the transplant. 

According to him, the doctor wanted to give him another man's liver, and he was not going to sleep with his wife with another man's liver because he feared what if his donor was either gay or a drug addict.

She remained his bride until his death 

Like he said, they got married on the same date. 

However, their marriage faced ups and downs as there were rumors of Vicente's infidelities during their marriage, which Vicente denied. 

In February 2021, singer Lupita Castro accused him of sexual assault that happened 40 years before when he was just 17. 

She claimed she was bound to speak because of his threats of violence against her, but she later refused to go to court against him.

Despite all of those, Maria stood by his side. She was there with him until his last breath. 

Vicente sadly passed away on the 12th of December, 2021, at the age of 81, due to complications from his injuries. 

Vicente fell from his ranch in Guadalajara in August 2021, which led him to injure his cervical spine. He was kept on a ventilator in the intensive care unit. 

In November, he was again put in the intensive care unit following his complications from pneumonia.
