Marcheline Bertrand

Marcheline Bertrand was a former actress, producer, and humanitarian. 

She is also famous for being a mother to Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie.

She gave up on her dreams after her marriage

Marcheline gave up on her dreams of becoming an aspiring actress after her marriage. 

She was married to Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight at the age of 21. 

She was the second wife of veteran actor Voight. 

He was previously married to fellow actress Lauri Peters on 30th April 1962 but parted ways in 1967. 

After her marriage on 12th December 1971, she devoted herself to raising her children. 

After 11 years, she landed a small supporting role in Looking to get out, followed by another comedy film, The Man, who loved Women.

Separated from her ex-husband before the divorce

Following her ex-husband's extra-marital affair, she separated from her husband in 1976. 

In 1978, Marcheline filed for divorce, which was finalized in 1980. 

Angelina was just a year old during their separation, which led to a tumultuous relationship with her father. 

Angelina avoided her father for years. 

However, they reconciled in 2001 when they both starred alongside each other in 2001's movie Tomb Raider.

But unfortunately, it could not last long, and Angelina removed her middle name. 

They did not reconcile until the death of her mother.

Great source of inspiration for her beloved children

After divorce, she became a single full-time mother to her two beloved children James and Angelina, who are now accomplished, actors. 

Her elder son James was born on 11th May 1973, while her daughter Angelina was born on 4th June 1975. 

As a mother, she wanted her kids to know what it is to have a life as an artist. 

She would take her daughter to auditions and wait for her in the cars for hours to make her daughter feel good. 

She gave up everything she could.

Remarried 

After her divorce, she once again found love and was in a relationship with documentary filmmaker Bill Day. 

They remained in a live-in relationship for 11 years. 

During the time, they collaborated and launched the production company under the name Woods Road Productions. 

She was dating activist and musician John Trudell after breaking up with Bill. 

She worked as executive producer for creating a documentary on John Trudell.

Later, she tied a knot with Tom Bessamra in 2002. They remained in marital bliss until her death. 

However, her former husband never remarried after divorcing her.

She died following the long battle of Cancer

Marcheline was diagnosed with ovarian cancer while she was 49. 

She created a charitable institution, Give Life Give Love, to create awareness about the disease. 

However,  Marcheline could not survive the ovarian and breast cancer. 

After fighting the battle for almost a decade, she took her last breath on 27th January 2007 at Cedars-Senai Medical Center in Los Angeles. 

She was 57 at the time, and Angelina was in her thirties. 

The same dreadful disease claimed the life of her mother and sister.

Marcheline’s daughter Angelina talked about her in Anderson show

Despite the demise, her daughter Angelina is always captured talking about Marcheline in most of the shows. 

Here, she mentioned her mom and how beautiful she was. Anderson, the host of the show, asked the actress how her mom would feel seeing Angelina as a mom? 

Angelina replied, saying that Marcheline had seen her as a mom. She confronted that Marcheline was able to meet some of her grandchildren. 

She giggled and said that Marcheline was her mom, and she would always praise and be proud of Angelina for performing a great job. 

Further adding, Angelina said that the lady was an extraordinary mother. She was selfless. Also, she was one of those kind human beings who became happy by helping others.  

Angelina said that she would never be good as her mom, both as a person and a mother. Continuing the conversation, Angelina shared many things she got to learn from her late mother.

Angelina partnering with Guerlain was a personal one?

Many of you might not know, but the actress had partnered with Guerlain. She is the main face of brand's scent Mon Guerlain. 

Angelina revealed that the decision behind signing this brand was influenced by her mom Marcheline. The actress told how her late mom was so much fond of Guerlain. 

Furthermore, Angelina shared that it spoke to her as it did to her mom. Adding more as it spoke of beauty, history and quality too. It is considered as one of the oldest perfumes houses located in France. 

She mentioned France as a country that is close to her heart. She opened up that her mom Marcheline never wore makeup nor heavy jewelry, but the one thing she used to make her feel feminine was the Guerlain powder.
