”It’s sad, but I wanted to say Happy Birthday to Amy. It’s devastating she’s not here. I think about her all the time, I thought about her this morning when I said my little happy birthday to her. I will always miss her. She was my best friend”, he said.

They had their issues, and if it hadn’t been for certain factors, it would have been a different relationship, a different outcome, he continued. 

When asked about the factors, he said aside from the addiction that everyone knows about, early age fame, which, according to him, is hard to deal with, and also, everything happened so quickly for him and Amy at the time. 

They didn’t know how to conduct themselves and what the limits were.

One of the reasons why he wanted to speak that day was that he believed people still blamed him for Amy’s death. 

He said he gets blamed, and that is ok for him, explaining that he can’t change what people feel about that, but for him personally, he needed to stop carrying that burden, which he has carried for over a decade. 

He also said that he is the only person within that story that’s ever held any accountability. 

He tried to say he made a huge mistake. 

He was a 20-something drug addict and had no idea how to clean himself, let alone someone else.

He admitted that her relationship with heroin started after she met him and saw him doing it, but he wasn’t a drug addict before Amy was. 

He said he didn’t know what he was doing and wasn’t going into that with the intention of that happening and that he doesn’t think people who loved Amy would think that that was what he would have wanted, but equally, they would have said Amy wouldn’t want him to have taken the burden for the past ten plus years.
