Laporte is currently married to his second wife. They are currently residing in Agen, Aquitaine.
His other son is also a footballer
His other son Leo is also a football player. He is currently playing for the Spanish club Deportivo Alaves.
Why did his son swap France for Spain?
Born in France, Aymeric represented France's youth side, captaining the under-17, under-18, under-19, and under-21 levels.
He was called up to the senior squad twice but remained uncapped.
He switched the national team in 2021 after receiving Spanish citizenship and approval from FIFA to switch the teams.
But what was the reason behind swapping France for Spain?
The France national team boss Didier Deschamps said he never received a prior warning from Aymeric, and the only message he received was regarding his injury in October.
Aymeric later, during an interview with The Guardian, presented his side of the story where he claimed that Deschamps did not respond to his text which he had sent before swapping the team.
He said six years ago, they didn’t call him. He had sent a message but didn’t get a reply.
Maybe he changed his number or got a new phone which could be, but he had replied to the same number he (Deschamps) had called from, he added.
He also cleared that he is not saying France didn’t want him, but he is grateful to those who “bet” on him. Spain did, and he is trying to return that faith.
It was not an easy decision as his family still resides in France, and from a very early age, he played there with the national team.
There were lots of family discussions, chats, exchanges of opinions, and doubts involved, he said.
The reason he pushed his son to play football rather than rugby
As a former rugby player, Laporte wanted his son to play football rather than rugby and always pushed him towards football.
In an interview, Aymeric explained the reason why his father preferred football over rugby.
He said his dad didn’t want him to play rugby because he felt it was hard on the body, so in school, he encouraged him to play football, and that was how it all started.
He started as a striker, then later turned as a midfielder, and now he is a centre-half.
When he was told that out of 1000, only one of them was going to become a professional footballer, he continued the battle to achieve his dream, working hard and sacrificing whatever it took him to be in the position he is in today.
The story behind Aymeric's goal celebration
Aymeric celebrates his goal in his unique style using his arms. It is a dance he used to do with his friends when he was young.
He was inspired by a Tecktonik dance.
When asked if he liked any goal celebrations while growing up, he said he loved the goal celebration of Pauleta, where he spreads his arm like a goshawk.
