Lea Petkovic

Lea Petkovic is the daughter of the Bosnian-Swiss football manager and former professional player Vladimir Petkovic. Vladimir is currently the head coach of the Switzerland national team.

Journey from a migrant to a successful manager

Born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, to educational worker parents, Vladimir started playing football in the youth sector of his hometime at fifteen with FK Sarajevo and later began his professional career. 

He moved to Switzerland, emigrating from Yugoslavia seeking bright future in 1987. He spent his 20 years as a midfielder in Bosnia, Switzerland, and Slovenia. 

He spent most of his career in Switzerland that included Bellinzona, Young Boys, and Sion. His two years at Italian side Lazio as a manager, led the club to win Coppa Italia in 2013.  

His appointment as head coach of the Switzerland national team in 2014 prompted Swiss to the round of 16 stages in UEFA Euro 2016 in France and FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. 

He will lead the team at Euro 2020. The Swiss have been placed in Group A alongside Turkey, Italy, and Wales. The Swiss have not failed to reach a major final since his appointment.

How did her parents meet?

Her parents Vladimir and Ljiljana Petkovic, have been husband and wife for more than three decades. Their married life is growing smoother and stronger with every passing year. 

They first met in the summer evening of 1984 at a disco. At the time, Ljiljana studied English in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, while Vladimir studied law and his playing career with Sarajevo. 

They did not hit off instantly. In 1987, Vladimir emigrated from Yugoslavia and moved permanently to Switzerland. Later, she followed him to Switzerland, where he was playing at NLB club Chur 97. 

They got married on November 21, 1987. She is the rock in his life and the woman behind his successful career. According to Vladimir, a marriage needs respect, tolerance, and patience.

Sibling

She has an elder sister Ines Petkovic who was born in Martigny in 1988. At the time of her birth, Vladimir was 25 and played for the first Swiss club Chur 97 as a young footballer. 

Lea was born in Bellinzona. Her father completed his career as a player-manager with Bellinzona and Malcantone Agno. 

Her mother ran a small business for more than a decade until 2013 where she sold color cartridges for printers alongside running the household. 

Most ardent followers 

According to Vladimir, Lea, her sister Ines and her mother Ljiljana are the most ardent followers of Vladimir. They are quite regular on every soccer game supporting his team. 

When Vladimir became the manager of Turkish side Samsunspor, Ljiljana flew to Turkish 30 times in one year. Ljiljana stated that her entire family loves to travel. 

Lea’s Instagram posts are filled with travel memories. She has visited various countries so far, following her father.

Relationship status 

Lea has not made her relationship status public. However, she often hangs out with her girlfriends, which she often shares on social media.

She is currently pursuing her studies. She is studying business administration at the University of Lugano. She graduated with a bachelor of arts in economic science in 2019.
