Married for more than two decades

Kirsten has been happily married to her husband for more than two decades. They first met at Brigham Young University, the university they both attended.

In an interview with Screen Rant, her husband said his go-to advice in a relationship would be loyalty and putting aside pettiness.

And his biggest advice is to learn selflessness.

It's not about sacrificing what you like but more about realizing not to sweat the petty things and not pet the sweaty thing.

He then went on to say that focusing on what you love about them and going in that direction aids in making the relationship better because there is much happiness in sticking to that and focusing on what's amazing.

Mother of four

Kirsten is the proud mother of her four kids, whom she shares with her beloved husband.

They have the eldest daughter Evan and two sons, Philips and Timothy. Their youngest one, a daughter, was born in late 2020. They also have four cats.

The reason behind moving away from Hollywood

Kirsten and her family made a pandemic move to the Pacific Northwest from Los Angeles, loving it so far.

Her husband, in an interview with Hollywood Reporter, said he aspired to get into the entertainment industry growing up and dreamt of doing creative kinds of stuff.

Still, it was not about becoming a huge star. But after Napoleon Dynamite, he was getting more attention and fame.

Eventually, having to deal with fame, he was letting it bother him a lot more, and that got into his head.

It got to a point where he realized he should not let it bother him anymore.

He said he is proud of being able to continue to work in this industry but also being able to feel as normal as possible.

He added that he and his wife are raising a family in the most normal way possible.

Similarly, during the Inside Of You Podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, he said he felt like a constant outsider after entering Hollywood the entire time he lived there, but not in a bad way.

He embraced and loved it that sort of what set him apart a little bit.

Kirsten thinks family should be given more priority because they are going to be their whole life

Kirsten and her husband appeared on “In Love Podcast” back in 2019, where they talked about balancing and maintaining a healthy married life and the importance of putting their family first place.

Kirsten and Jon first met in 2001. They started dating and got married in 2002

According to Kirsten, both of them were totally broke when they first met and would steal food from Jon’s grandparent’s house.

They would go there when they weren’t at home. It was only nearly a year after their marriage Jon started shooting Napoleon Dynamite.

Kirsten said they try to keep their family in the first place no matter what explaining that everything in the industry is so fleeting and always up and down, but family is long-term.

They are going to be there for their whole life. She said she feels family should be given more priority.

Also, the reason they have made family their number one priority is that family is what you have for the rest of your life, and if you don’t, then you kind of got nothing going for you when this is all over.

Kirsten also said that when they were going to make Napolean, she had got her first big job out of college, and she was super excited because she was making more money than she thought.

She recalled Jon saying to her that he was making Napolean, and she was saying to go for it because she was making the money.

She was super excited to support her husband, and the very first time she saw the movie was at Sundance.

They also shared they are very private, and at the same time, they are very much like they don’t need to be public about anything they do or what their family is doing.

They keep it very much in-house.

He is ok with her not wanting to be in the limelight because he wants her to be comfortable, but at the same time, there are still those times when he is like, “I want to share this with you.”

Jon said that he has so much pride in Kirsten that he has those feelings like This is my wife, and I am completely happy with her, how she looks, how she is, and what she stands for.

He added that he wants people to know that but also wants to keep it within himself because it’s private.
