Kelley Pulisic

Kelley Pulisic is the beloved mother of an American-born professional soccer player Christian Pulisic, an attacking midfielder or winger for Chelsea and the United States national team. 

Both Kelley and her husband played soccer 

Kelley met her future husband, Mark Pulisic while studying at George Mason University, where they both played soccer. 

Both graduated from the university with a degree in physical education. Her husband also played professional indoor soccer in the 1990s for Harrisburg Heat. 

He is now coaching at both youth and professional levels. 

When Kelley received a Fulbright Scholarship and the opportunity to teach in Woodstock, England, in a teacher’s exchange program for a year from 2007-08, Mark was doing a lot of different clubs in England, and he took Christian along with him that helped Christian experience on overseas early on.

The family split for a while for the sake of Christian’s career

The family split for a while when Mark relocated to Germany to be with his then-17-year-old Christian while he played with Borussia Dortmund's under-19 team and only returned when he signed a professional contract with the club at the age of 18. 

During the time, Kelley and their daughter DeeDee resided in New York. 

Mark, in an interview, revealed the first was difficult in Germany as they both missed home, he missed his wife and his daughter, and Christian missed his mom and his sister. 

There were emotional nights, but they stuck together and boosted each other and decided to give a solid year. 

While in Germany, they faced other challenges as well because of cultural diversity and language. 

It was tough for Christian because he got enrolled in a German school and also had to take German lessons after school before training, so he was completely occupied. 

Also, it took Mark two and a half years to learn German completely.

Kelley was unfortunately not there to witness Christian when Christian made his Bundesliga debut in a 2-0 victory over Ingolstadt, coming as a second-half substitute for Adrian Ramos. 

Mark recalled the moment when he first saw Christian on the pitch. He said he was shaking because of nervousness and was relieved only after the game was over. 

He describes the moment to be the most memorable moment of his life. 

Mark left Christian in late 2016 to live on his own in Dortmund, thinking it was time for him to return. 

Her son gave her a big shout-out 

In a Christmas Special quick-fire question by Amazon Prime Video Sport, Christian was asked who, according to him, was a better footballer between his mom and dad, to which he took the name of his mom. 

“I’ll give a shout-out to my mom on this one,” he said. He added that both of his parents are very good players and different types of players.

Kelley shows impressive football skills

As a former player, Kelley was seen showing impressive football skills in a video shared by Christian. 

The video was captured in the kitchen, where the mom and son duo were juggling the ball as Kelley showed her dribbling skills. 

Christian, on the video, noted, ”And y’all thought I got it from my dad.”

He described Kelley to be an outstanding player for them and was pleased that they had her. It was a huge plus point to get an outstanding local player. 

She was one of his captains and was someone on whom he could always count to get everything done on and off the field. She was terrific in that field, he wrote.
