Karl Towns Sr. is famous as the father of Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns.

He is the first mentor to his son

Towns Sr. is the first mentor to his son as he was a basketball player, and he instilled athlete talent in his son. 

He played for Monmouth University and later coached basketball at Piscataway Technical High School. 

He withdrew money from his savings to build a basketball court behind their home to make his son practice. Until he earned enough money to buy the hoop, they would use a Fisher-Price goal. 

He is responsible for molding his son to a better player fueling motivation throughout his career phase.

Married life

Towns Sr. was married to his wife Jacqueline Cruz, a Dominican. They got married in July 1990 and were in marital bliss till April 2020. 

Both he and his wife worked for McKesson, a pharmaceutical company in New Jersey. 

Besides that, Karl worked five different jobs, including coaching, to help his son fulfill his dream. 

As parents, they whole-heartedly supported their son by attending every match and tournament to cheer him up.

His wife could not survive the COVID-19 battle

Both he and his wife were tested positive with the Coronavirus in March 2020. He recovered, but his wife did not. 

She was in a medically-induced coma and was later transformed to a ventilator on March 25, 2020. His wife was 58 when she took her last breath on April 13, 2020. 

It would have been their 30th anniversary in July 2020 if she was alive. 

After the death of his wife, he attended his son’s game for the first time without her in March 2021, which was indeed difficult for him and his son, and he got emotional before the game. 

He had not been to any game physically since the death of his beloved wife.

Father of three children

He is not only a father to his son Karl-Anthony but also a father to his two daughters, Malaika Singleton-Towns and Lachelle Towns. 

His son was born in the year 1995. All his three children were raised in Piscataway, New Jersey. Out of his two daughters, Lachelle is happily married and a mother of her two kids.

Karl-Anthony is currently dating Jordyn Woods. According to Woods, she and Karl-Anthony were friends, and they were connected about losing their respective parents at a young age.

How did his son get inspired by him to keep the legacy going on?

While answering some of the fan's questions, his son revealed him being a huge Lakers fan. 

When the fan asked about his favorite NBA team while growing up, he started by telling that his dad was a big Lakers fan, and also his favorite NFL team was the San Francisco 49ers. 

He added to say that his dad was a big LA boy for some reason without ever being in LA and could not figure out the logic behind it, but it worked for him. 

He also went on to say that his favorite team while growing up was Knicks because Knicks was the only team that gave his dad a chance out of college. 

His dad made the training camp squad but later broke his ankle after one of the practices, due to which his playing career got a full stop, but he became the coach. 

It was an honor for KAT that Knicks saw his dad being potential to be in their gym, and he had in his mind to finish the steps he had. 

His dad's career was gone on a snap after making it to the training camps, putting all that effort that he went through college, busting people up, getting bocks and rebounds, and making it to the leagues. 

So, KAT felt like maybe he could finish and keep the legacy going on and finish what he started.
