Kali is a research scientist. According to Research Gate, after earning two bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Music Performance from the University of Florida, she attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. 

She earned a master's degree in Communication Sciences and a doctoral degree in Communication Science and Disorders and is currently working as a research specialist at the same college, Infant and Child Development Center. 

The research aims to show how children use temporal rhythmic cues to make sense of speech, how they learn to incorporate acoustic variability in speech, and how children learn to identify the sounds for them and use those sounds for thinking and reasoning.
