Julien Stephan

Julien Stephan is a French-born football manager and a former footballer. He is the son of professional football manager, Guy Stephan who is currently serving as an assistant coach for the France National Team. 

Like his father, he decided to start his coaching career after a short span of playing career. As a former player, he played as a midfielder. 

After having managed Ligue 1 club Rennes, he signed a new three-year contract with RC Strasbourg Alsace.

The rise and fall of Stephan

Stephan was announced the head coach for Rennes in 2018 after having served as an Academy director at the club. 

Stephan successfully led the team to victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2019 French Cup final, their first victory in 48 years. 

He further led the team to the UEFA champions league for the first time last season. 

After his incredible season, Stephan went downfall resulting to just one victory and struggled to manage just two points in its six league matches that followed with 2-1 loss defeat to Nice.

After having spent nearly a decade with Rennes, Stephan decided to step down from his managerial post. 

He admitted to deciding with a heavy heart with deep thought. He further added to giving his best and all he could for the betterment of the club. 

The decision to leave the club came after his poor result at Rennes. Following his resignation, Bruno Genesio was appointed the new head coach.

He is a married man

Stephan is a married man. He has a beautiful family of four, which includes his two children with his wife.

Stephan has a younger brother Guillaume Stephan, a former professional football player who played as a midfielder.
