Jonathan Tah

Jonathan Tah is a professional footballer who plays for Bundesliga Club Bayer Leverkusen and the Germany national team.

Parents and siblings

Jonathan was born on February 11, 1996, in Hamburg, Germany. His parents are Aquilas Tah and Anja Tah. 

His father is Ivorian, and his mother is German. He is blessed with a sibling, a sister. His parents divorced when he was young. 

His mother raised him and his sister and always supported them no matter what. 

Anja did everything she could do for them and had just one rule, i.e., they could play as much as they liked on weekends, but they needed to focus on their education at school.

Why did he apologize to his mother?

Jonathan started playing football at a very young age and started his youth career in 2000 with the local club Altona 93 at the age of four. 

He said in an interview that he had to apologize to his mother because he had gone through so many pairs of trousers. 

He said in 2002, in Hamburg, Germany, he was always playing football, riding bikes, and performing many other activities on the weekends at their local park, Jemal-Altun-park, and he tore many clothes. 

At that time, there were more concrete grounds than grass grounds, and the pitch was not much of a pitch as it was a hard blacktop court. 

Playing on such a surface meant his trousers didn’t stand much chance when it came to tackling and would rip right through the knee. 

He recalled an incident when he tackled a friend, and when he got up, brushed himself off, and then looked down his trousers only to find another tear, a rip right through the knee. 

He added that most parents would be upset when their child constantly tore their clothes, but his mother was a little more understanding and came up with a plan. 

She bought him five pairs of trousers, hoping one of them would last more than a couple of weekends. 

Even though Jonathan would try to make them last, he couldn’t let an opportunity to bring down a striker pass and tore the trousers. 

He always wanted to be the guy who stopped a run and cleared the ball upfield for a counterattack rather than scoring a goal. 

Even though his mother didn’t like football, she knew football was becoming a huge part of her son's life. 

She always wanted him to be grounded and also focus on his class. 

She would tell him that he needs to finish school as an alternative just in case he injures himself and end his football career. He said,

For my mother, Plan A was for me to go to college and university. For me, Plan A was to become a professional footballer. And Plan B? Make Plan A work.

Jonathan handed his mother his first match jersey and told her no rips on it. 

He said his mother is not the kind of woman to show emotion or cry, but that day, he saw in her eyes how proud she was of her son. 

Who is Jonathan married to?

Jonathan is married to his beautiful girlfriend, Luisa. Luisa is from Italy. They dated for more than four years before getting married. 

Luisa made the first appearance on Jonathan's Instagram on January 2, 2020, when he posted a picture of them in Dubai with the caption, first steps of 2020 with my soulmate. 

Jonathan wished her happy birthday on June 4, 2020, and wrote that her charity, warmth, and love inspire him and the ones around her every single day. 

They went on various vacations together, like Mauritius in July 2022 and New York City on November 20, 2022. 

They even celebrated festivals together, like Christmas and New Year's. 

On December 25, 2022, Jonathan posted a picture of them celebrating Christmas together. 

They exchanged wedding vows in June 2023. Jonathan posted several pictures of their wedding day on his Instagram and wrote,

He is grateful that Luisa is his wife. Luisa supports her husband's charity work. 

Jonathan has been the ambassador for the DFB Egidius Braun Foundation, an organization that supports children with cancer. 

At their wedding, Jonathan and Luisa wanted to make a donation to Hopp Children's Tumor Center Heidelberg rather than accept expensive gifts. 

They were able to raise 25000 euros as a donation.
