During his 18 months at the school, he became good at beatboxing, and when he got out of the school, he joined hands with the local rapper, Ready Ron. 

With Ready Ron, he also developed the habit of smoking c*ack, which later became an integral part of his life. In the urgency of the need for c*ack, he began to rob and steal more. 

He was behind bars at the age of 14. He translated his rage into rhymes that kept him alive and gave purpose to his life. DMX, in an interview, confronted that he loved his father even if he was not there for him.

After Joe left his wife and children, she became a single mother. Instead of giving love and care, she gave them physical abuse and hate. 

Their failure to be good parents destroyed their son in many ways. An innocent boy who starved for love and attention from his parents received abandonment. 

He had endured the pain during his entire childhood from abusive, neglectful, and terrible mother that led him to the path of crime and addiction, the same addiction that took his life today.
