Joao Pedro

Joao Pedro is a Brazilian-born professional footballer who plays for the premier league club Watford as a forward. 

A rising star, Joao, was born to his father, Jose Joao de Jesus, who mainly goes by Chicao, a former professional footballer who played for several clubs in Brazil. Before making his move to Watford, Joao was a youth player at Fluminense.

His football journey to the premier league club 

Joao started playing football at four. He was noticed by one of the scouts while he was playing in the championship with his soccer school, where he scored two goals. 

The Fluminese at the time was looking for an age group for 2000, but Joao was born in 2001, and it did not have a group for 2001. 

The scout later came back after having spoken to someone at the Fluminese and gave his card, asking him to keep in touch. 

A week later, he joined the youth system of Fluminense. Before having his senior debut, Watford agreed to sign him in January 2020. 

He scored a hat trick in the first game in the starting XI in Fluminese, which was the first hattrick that kept him motivated to perform better every day.  

In January 2020, he signed a five-year contract with Watford. Joao scored his first goal for Watford on his 19th birthday against Luton, followed by a long-range goal on the 16th of October in Watford’s victory over Derby County.

His father was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment

His father, Chicao, who contributed to the final of Sao Paulo state championship, was sentenced to 16-years imprisonment for his accessory to murder in 2002. He was released after serving eight years in prison. 

But unfortunately, he was arrested for the second time in 2011 for deliberately threatening people in public with a firearm. His career was derailed for his involvement in the crime.

Raised by a single mom

By the time Joao’s father was sentenced to 16 years in prison, his parents were already separated. His mother, Flavia Junqueira, raised him studying at the university in the evening and working in the daytime. 

When Joao was 10, they moved to Rio de Janeiro, and soon after they moved to Rio, they were surrounded by economic issues.  

They used to rent out some of their properties, but when no one was renting, they would go through a hard time making ends meet and affording trainers. 

Joao is forever indebted to his grandmother Dalva Junqueira as well who helped his mother in raising him. Joao spent most of his time with his grandmother while his mother worked in sales. 

His focus on football became more serious after experiencing the economic circumstances. He realized football could help him provide for his mother and grandmother.

His mother later remarried Carlos Junior, who became a part of his life. His stepdad got his bicycle goal tattooed on his hand just before the end of the last season.  

According to Joao, scoring the goal at the last minute of the game at 17 was a lifelong memory that inspired him to get tattoo. 

Both father and son have a written tattoo with the word “Fated” as the word defines him.

Married his girlfriend

Joao is happily married to his girlfriend, Carol Assis. The couple married in December 2020 in London. 20-year old Carol is a digital influencer, a model, and a Youtuber.   

As of now, she has 109k followers on her Instagram account and 25.5k subscribers on her Youtube channel. Before that, Joao was dating then 15-year old Brazilain-born Television star Mel Maia.

According to the sources, the couple was dating since September 2019. Both of them were open to their relationship as they used to upload pictures of them together in their respective Instagram accounts.

After their break-up, they have removed the pictures. Both of them have moved on in their life.
