Joakim Maehle

Joakim Maehle is a Danish-born professional footballer who plays for Series A club Atlanta and the Denmark national team as a full-back. 

His career so far

Born in Ostervra, Joakim started playing football with his hometown club Ostervra IF, before he moved to AaB at the age of 12. 

Through hard work and dedication, he made his move to the first-team squad in 2016 at the age of 19 and signed a full-time contract with the club the same year. 

Later that year, he signed a new contract until 2020. On July 2017, he joined the Belgian club Genk succeeding right–back Timothy Castagne. 

He was not a starter in his first season with the club as he fought for his position with Clinton Mata. 

He was able to land a permanent starting position in his second season after Clinton Mata moved to Club Brugge. 

He contributed the team to win their fourth league title with three goals and five assists. 

In December 2020, Atlanta bought him from Genk on a five-year contract, but his transfer was made official on 4 January 2021.

Joakim has scored nine times in 25 appearances for his country. 

He has risen to prominence from his impressive style of play and is regarded as one of the top defenders in the football world. 

Many big clubs like West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur have been eyeing him.

He credits his parents for paving his way to success

Joakim was born to his parents, father Ole and mother Annemette, in Ostervra. He grew up alongside his brothers playing football from an early age. 

In an interview, he said he couldn’t remember he and his brother smashed on the road.

Joakim’s father, Ole, was a legend on the first team in Ostervra. He was Joakim’s coach for several years. 

He still seeks his father’s advice and listens to his advice. Behind his success, he credits his parents and also his brothers and childhood friends.
